Some new rules will be in effect this college football season
The 2023 college football season is just weeks away.
The year ahead could be transformative for the sport, with conference movement, the transfer portal, and NIL deals changing the nature of college football. But those are not the only changes coming to the game. When “Week 0” kicks off at the end of August, some new rules will be in effect for the college game.
So before things get going, we thought it made sense to run through the major new rules, to get ready for the season.

There’s no need to overanalyze it—Damar Hamlin’s return to the game field Saturday was the best story of the weekend. It’s been a little more than eight months since the scariest moment most of us have seen on a football field played out in front of the nation. So that Hamlin was out there, on the field, in any capacity, is incredible.
For the record, he finished with 22 snaps played on defense, another four on special teams, and was in on three tackles, including one to stone the Colts offense on a fourth-and-1 in the first quarter.
The 49ers had just wrapped up a walkthrough at the team facility the day before their 2022 preseason opener against the Packers. Brock Purdy, at that point, was a seventh-round, third-string rookie. He wasn’t even backing up Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo yet, with Garoppolo exiled to a side field as the team worked to trade him. It was actually Lance and Nate Sudfeld he was behind. As such, shots to show what he had came few and far between.
Yet, Purdy managed to figure out he was making an impression.
Enes Kanter Freedom recently floated possibly as identifying as a woman to dominate the WNBA in order to prove a point.
Men identifying as women and destroying women’s sports has become a major topic in America over the past few years.
It appeared Lia Thomas, a biological man, destroying women in the pool pushed things to a breaking point, and it’s been off to the races ever since.
Now, the former Celtics center thinks putting on a wig and destroying the WNBA might finally bring enough outrage to end the nonsense.

Mike Gundy celebrated his birthday over the weekend by jamming out with Zach Bryan, and some fans are definitely not happy.
The Oklahoma State football coach turned 56 Saturday, and celebrated by attending Bryan’s concert in Tulsa.
Obviously, he wasn’t just going to chill in the cheap seats. He hopped up on the stage as the crowd was going wild.
You can check out the moment Gundy teamed up with the fastest rising name in country music below.

Tempers flared during the Texans’ latest training camp session, with a small fight reportedly breaking out along the sideline.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans was asked by reporters about the scuffle at camp, and he weighed in with a fiery response, indicating he was pleased to see that level of intensity from his players.
“To see scuffling in training camp, I would say: finally,” Ryans said to reporters, via NBC Sports. “We actually see some guys—that’s what training camp is about.
Calls for robot umpires grew a bit louder on Sunday after a controversial strikeout call on Alec Bohm during the Phillies’ clash against the Twins.
Bohm came to the plate facing a full count with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, a crucial spot for Philadelphia, who trailed 2–0 at the time.
The payoff pitch from lefty Caleb Thielbar appeared to be well inside, and Bohm began to trot towards first base before realizing home plate umpire Alex Mackay had rung him up on strikes.
Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has dominated headlines in the Hoosier State this offseason, demanding a trade from Indianapolis and seemingly generating comment from owner Jim Irsay.
For now, Taylor is away from the Colts rehabbing an ankle injury. However, that is expected to change this week.
“He should be back [at training camp] this week,” Indianapolis coach Shane Steichen said Sunday. “Do I know the exact date he’ll be back? No, but he should be back.
The 49ers QB’s ugly performance in Sunday’s preseason game shows something is still not clicking. And that’s a problem for a player going into Year 3.
Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins saved the team in multiple ways during their series finale against the Mariners on Sunday.
During the ninth inning in a 3–2 game, Mullins made a sensational catch to rob Ty France of a home run, picking the ball from over the wall and bringing it back into the field. But two pitches later, the game was tied up by a solo shot from Dominic Canzone.
Mullins came up to bat in the 10th inning and delivered what would end up being the game-winning two-run home run, as Baltimore picked up an important 5–3 win.
