According to numerous reports, the four-time All-Star first baseman reached an agreement with the Blue Jays on a 14-year, $500 million contract extension on Monday night.
Despite reports of a spring training deadline for negotiations, the two sides continued talking into this week, and now they’ve officially come to terms on a pact that will keep the slugger in Toronto for the remainder of his career.

Torpedo bats are all the rage this season, and Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred believes all that chatter is positive for the sport.
“They’re absolutely good for baseball,” Manfred said in a Q&A published by The New York Times on Sunday. “I believe that issues like the torpedo bat and the debate around it demonstrate the fact that baseball still occupies a unique place in our culture, because people get into a complete frenzy over something that’s really nothing at the end of the day.

Sean Miller has struck again. Texas Longhorns basketball has landed its third transfer portal commitment of the window and it’s a big one. Literally. 7-foot center Matas Vokietaitis has announced he will transfer to UT from Florida Atlantic. At FAU, the Lithuanian native was named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
Vokietaitis joins Xavier forward Dailyn Swain and Purdue forward Camden Heide as Miller’s three transfer portal commitments.
With Sunday’s win at Golden State, the Rockets secured a top-three placement in the 2025 Western Conference playoff field and are on the verge of landing the No. 2 seed.
The top-four teams in the West (standings) will all have home-court advantage in their first-round series, which means that Houston will open up its playoff run at home on either Saturday, April 19, or Sunday, April 20. The Rockets are 29-11 at Toyota Center this season.
Teams with home-court advantage would play the first, second, fifth, and seventh games of a best-of-seven series at home.
