LOS ANGELES (AP) — Luka Doncic doesn’t need an excuse to pile on points, so when Chicago guard Matas Buzelis started jawing with him Thursday night, it became the fuel for his first 50-point game with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Doncic turned what he called unprovoked trash talk from Buzelis into 51 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in the Lakers’ 142-130 victory.
“It always feels special,” Doncic said after his eighth career 50-point game. “I obviously haven’t had a 50-point game in a year, so it was very special. I mean, in the second quarter, I kind of felt it.

The Washington Commanders finally added a running back on Thursday, signing Rachaad White to a one-year deal. The move comes one day after Washington did not tender Chris Rodriguez Jr. a contract, and he quickly landed a two-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After White’s addition, the Commanders now have two running backs under contract for 2026: White and Jacory Croskey-Merritt. That means Washington isn’t done at running back, as it carried four last season and will add at least one more to the roster.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Pavel Dorofeyev had two goals and an assist and the Vegas Golden Knights beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 on Thursday night.
Vegas, which had lost six of seven, snapped a three-game losing streak that dropped them to third place in the Pacific Division.
With Edmonton losing 7-2 in Dallas earlier in the night, the Golden Knights moved into sole possession of second place. The Penguins remained tied with the New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division.

SEATTLE (AP) — Nazem Kadri scored his first goal since rejoining Colorado and Nathan MacKinnon added his NHL-leading 44th score of the season as the Avalanche beat the Seattle Kraken 5-1 on Thursday night.
Kadri, acquired from the Calgary Flames on March 6, gave Colorado a 4-1 lead when he tipped a shot by Sam Malinski past Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauer, who replaced Joey Daccord to start the second period. Kadri spent three seasons with the Avalanche, and won the Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2022.
