It has not been the kind of season that the Kentucky Wildcats baseball team was hoping for so far. They have lost four straight series in conference play, and have dropped to 25-10 on the year, and out of the top 25. That makes their series against Vanderbilt a big one.
Game one was on Friday, and it was a thrilling one for Wildcats fan. The Commodores jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Kentucky cut it in half in the sixth inning. That set up the fireworks in the ninth. The Cats opened up with three straight hits to load the bases.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Oneil Cruz hit a two-run home run, Brandon Lowe went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat Tampa Bay 5-1 on Friday night to snap the Ray’s six-game win streak.
Bubba Chandler (1-1) allowed a run and three hits over six innings. Mason Montgomery, Gregory Soto and Dennis Santana each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Marcell Ozuna and Spencer Horwitz each had three hits.
Ozuna led off the second inning with a single and opened the scoring when Horwitz doubled.

The Dodgers continue their weekend series against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night in Denver, with Emmet Sheehan coming off his best start of the season.
Sheehan struck out six in six innings against the Texas Rangers last Saturday at home, allowing three runs.

When the Los Angeles Dodgers took the field against the Colorado Rockies Friday night, it was among the coldest, if not the coldest, first-pitch temperature in the history of the franchise.
Different services put the temperature at Coors Field at around 34 to 37 degrees, which would be a contender for coldest first pitch in Dodgers history.
The Athletic‘s Fabian Ardaya, citing Stathead, said the coldest first pitch in Dodgers history is 37 degrees, though Bob Nightengale, then of the Los Angeles Times, said a 1996 game at Wrigley Field was played at 34 degrees.

The regional aspect of modern Major League Baseball makes it easy to miss out on stories or players from across the country. The San Diego Padres might be one of the best examples of that, considering most of their games start after 9pm Eastern and finish well after midnight.
