After the draw snatched at the very last second by Qatar on Saturday night against Switzerland (1-1), the World Cup delivered us another shock this Sunday morning!
Arda Güler, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Kenan Yıldız’s Turkey lost 2-0 to Australia.
A surprise… that maybe isn’t really that much of one after all!
The reason? Turkey is quite simply cursed in World Cup opening matches.

Fabrizio Romano has just provided an injury update on three Argentina stars at the World Cup, including Lionel Messi.
The tournament kicked off last Thursday, but Argentina’s first group stage match is not until Tuesday night.

The Carolina Hurricanes now lead the Las Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final after a rousing Game 5 that saw the Hurricanes score two power-play goals to nab a 4-2 win. Game 6 of the seriesis scheduled for Sunday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.

World Cup: Calhanoglu in action for Turkey
It was a disappointing start to the World Cup for Hakan Calhanoglu and Turkey, who lost 2-0 to Australia at BC Place in Vancouver. The Socceroos secured all three points thanks to goals from Irankunda in the 27th minute and Metcalfe in the 75th, leaving Vincenzo Montella’s side frustrated after a night in which they struggled to find a way through Australia’s well-organised defense.
Making his World Cup debut, Calhanoglu became the second Inter player to feature at this year’s tournament.

World Cup: Bruno’s Brazil start with draw

The Magpies captain – the only United player at this summer’s tournament to have already played at a World Cup – played in their a 6-2 win against Panama before netting the opener in their 2-1 warm-up victory over Egypt.
The five-time world champions kicked off their World Cup campaign with a a 1-1 draw with Morocco at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday, with the United man claiming an assist for Vinícius Júnior’s goal before being replaced by Danilo in the 80th minute.
