NEW YORK (AP) — After 161 games over six months failed to separate the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays, the AL East will be decided on the final day of the regular season.
“Kind of crazy,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday. “That is the beauty of our sport. And for those of us and you guys and fans that live and die with their teams all summer long, it should make for an exciting day.”
New York and Toronto are both 93-68 and assured of postseason berths. The Blue Jays hold the tiebreaker because they won the season series against the Yankees 8-5.
We are going to have an away team win the Ryder Cup.
Mathematically speaking the United States are alive as a team. But it would take a miracle.
That isn’t even a strong enough word, actually. With the Americans needing 14.5 points to win the Ryder Cup (an absurd idea clearly) they would have to mine out 10 of 12 possible points during Sunday singles. A tall task.
It has been a matter of total European domination at Bethpage Black. 11.5 to 4.5 is a score representative of that.

These past 24 hours of college football as well as the upcoming evening window have reminded me how much I love this sport.
It has been nothing but wall-to-wall action pretty much since Florida State and Virginia kicked off last night around dinner time.
On paper, this Ole Miss and LSU matchup has everything a rabid college football fan.
You have two of the premier coaches in the SEC going head-to-head in a top 15 showdown in Oxford, so conventional wisdom would say this is one of the most entertaining games on an otherwise historic slate.

The Minnesota Lynx finished the season atop the WNBA standings, but they’re fighting for their playoff lives in the league semifinals.
And they’ll have to do it without their head coach.
In the waning minutes of a Game 3 loss to the Phoenix Mercury, Lynx skipper Cheryl Reeve went beyond irate and lambasted an official for not calling a foul. Super-woke guard Napheesa Collier had her pocket picked by Alyssa Thomas, and she fell to the ground after their knees collided.
Reeve thought this was a foul, which led to her rant. It was so bad, it made the late Bobby Knight look like a pacifist.

The more things change for the USC Trojans, the more they stay the same.
Lincoln Riley took over in 2022, promising to bring a new energy, mindset, and level of quality to a flailing program that had declined precipitously under Clay Helton. While on paper the results were strong, and Caleb Williams was so exceptional that he won the Heisman Trophy, SC’s defense was so bad that it prevented them from reaching the then 4-team playoff or winning a conference championship game.

As the seconds ticked away, David Olano drilled a 41-yard field goal that sent Illinois intocelebration and left USC stunned in a 34-32 final.
It was a nail-biter to the very end, featuring thrilling plays, a back-and forth comeback, and a final kick that made all the difference.
“I knew the team was counting on me, and I just put my head down and focused on the kick,”Olano said after the game.
