SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Harrison Barnes scored 24 points, Julian Champagnie and Victor Wembanyama added 22 points apiece and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Houston Rockets 121-110 on Friday night in the NBA Cup opener for both teams.
Kevin Durant scored 24 points and Alperen Sengun added 22 for Houston, which had its five-game winning streak halted.
Barnes scored the game’s final four points on a pair of free throws and a breakaway dunk after a steal at midcourt with 12 seconds remaining.
Champagnie had nine points in the final quarter and finished 6 for 13 on 3-pointers.

The Islanders were thoroughly outplayed by a team that was on the back end of a traveling back-to-back, looking like a rusty, uninspired squad. It wasn’t laziness or lack of trying, rather it just looked like no one was in sync, no one could make or catch a pass — save for a couple nice plays on their goals — in a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
They started okay, but when the Wild got on the board at 7:24 of the first, they controlled play for the next five to six minutes and doubled their lead. The Isles never recovered.

DENVER (AP) — Stephen Curry missed his second straight game with an illness when the Golden State Warriors played the Nuggets in Denver on Friday night.
Draymond Green (ribs) and Jimmy Butler (back) returned to the Warriors’ lineup after missing the Warriors’ 121-116 loss to Sacramento on Tuesday night when Butler also was sidelined.
“Steph’s good, feeling a little better today,” Golden State coach Steve Kerr said before tipoff.
Kerr said he has only exchanged texts with Curry, whom he hopes can return to the Warriors’ lineup Sunday against the Indiana Pacers.

NEW YORK (AP) — Xaviah Bascon ran for two touchdowns, Seamus Gilmartin caught two touchdown passes from Jaden Craig, and Harvard rolled past Columbia 31-14 on Friday.
Bascon opened the scoring with a 1-yard rush to cap a 10-play, 80-yard scoring drive for the Crimson (8-1, 5-0 Ivy League). He added his second with 11 seconds left in the first half.
Craig found Gilmartin twice for scores in the second quarter. The first came following an interception by Columbia’s Chase Goodwin that Jack Donahoe secured and returned to the Columbia 2-yard line.

Nick Aldis has had enough of Drew McIntyre, and after another out-of-line moment, the WWE star has been suspended.
During Friday’s episode of SmackDown, McIntyre once again made a chaotic moment occur in the ring. In the closing minutes of the show, McIntyre interrupted the main event between Aleister Black and WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
