Long-time MLB announcer René Cárdenas died Sunday. He was 96.
Both the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros and National Baseball Hall of Fame paid homage to Cárdenas, with the Astros calling him a “true legend and pioneer in broadcasting.”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Major league baseball’s been a help to the SEC’s rule changes on the diamond, be it replay review or in-game communication between players, and the MLB showed commissioner Greg Sankey long ago what’s to come.
Last week, the conference announced it’d introduce an ABS (automated ball-strike system) challenge at this year’s SEC Tournament, which runs May 19-24 in Hoover, Alabama. It’s akin to the MLB’s first-year ABS review rule, and it was something Sankey first desired eight years prior.

Stephen A. Smith ripped former Phoenix Suns big Deandre Ayton after the Los Angeles Lakers fell behind the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder3-0 intheir Western Conference semifinals series.

René Cárdenas, who became the first full-time Spanish broadcaster in baseball history with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958, died May 10. He was 96.
“We mourn the passing of René Cárdenas, who in 1958 with the Dodgers became the first full-time Spanish-language broadcaster in MLB history and would ultimately spend 21 years behind the mic for Los Angeles,” the team announced on X. “We send our condolences to his loved ones.
