Michigan is working on a contract extension for football coach Jim Harbaugh worth $11 million annually over five years, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations. The main hurdle remaining is a commitment in writing from Harbaugh that he will not pursue an NFL job this cycle. The salary number would take him above Ohio State coach Ryan Day and make him the second-highest-paid coach in the sport behind Alabama’s Nick Saban and his $11.4 million–per-year salary.

Nugget penalty!
There have been countless reasons players have been penalized over the years, but an ECHL game has gifted the universe with the first penalty caused by chicken nugget.
Something gets thrown onto ice — at a morning kids game in Toledo — and Kirill Tyutyayev shoots it back into crowd. Gets a 10-minute misconduct. Gonna be interesting to see if league gives supplemental discipline. It’s pretty vanilla, but they don’t like shooting into stands. pic.twitter.com/ci1cd4kilw

1. ESPN’s Booger McFarland caused a stir last weekend when he said Florida State’s absence from the College Football Playoff, after going 13–0, was a “travesty to the sport.”
Those who have followed McFarland’s career weren’t surprised he’d have such a strong moment on ESPN’s college football studio show because he has become one of the network’s best analysts over the years.
However, to get to this place, McFarland had to endure a two-year stint on Monday Night Football that ultimately didn’t work out.

The rumors appear to be true; Rahm is headed to LIV Golf, and fans were all over the place on social media.
The news broke Thursday of Jon Rahm’s departure for LIV Golf. While rumors have been floating around for weeks, it appears the deal is all but done.
Not surprisingly, this development has caused ‘Jon Rahm’ to trend on Twitter.
Those who support LIV Golf are understandably excited, while many who oppose LIV don’t realize just how big of a loss this is for the PGA Tour.
Stephen A. Smith and Charles Barkley will be working together as part of the NBA’s in-season tournament, and based on a video shared by Smith on social media, he’s clearly very excited.
Smith and Barkley are two of the most beloved basketball commentators on television, but their network affiliations (Smith with ESPN, Barkley with Turner Sports) have mostly prevented them from being together on the same broadcast. But that all changes with the in-season tournament semifinal coverage on Thursday, which brings together ESPN and TNT personalities for a split doubleheader.
In our weekly Air Yards Breakdown, we’ll take a look at who led the NFL in this category and also go one step further. Air yards can be further split into or “prayer yards.” Prayer yards are just what they sound like—air yards on passes that are deemed uncatchable. In other words, targets that the receiver doesn’t have a prayer of catching. Prayer yards lead to a player’s boom-bust potential.

The Yankees made the biggest move of the MLB offseason thus far, trading for star outfielder Juan Soto on Wednesday night. While many New York fans were asking for the trade, one Yankees legend called his shot months before the deal went through.
At the MLB All-Star Game in July, Derek Jeter said he wanted to see the Yankees trade for Soto to improve their team. While Jeter was first talking about the trade deadline, San Diego chose to hold off on trading Soto until the offseason and New York pounced the moment he was available, making Jeter’s wish come true.
Even if you’ve watched hockey for your entire life, I guarantee you’ve never seen what happened in Toledo on Wednesday before. We’ve all seen some wild penalties before, but I can’t recall a player ever being handed a 10-minute misconduct for causing (the hockey kind) a chicken nugget into the crowd.
It has now happened to Kirill Tyutyayev of the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
The Walleye were hosting the Kalamazoo Wings for a morning game on Wednesday. This is the kind of thing that minor league teams do so that school groups could be in attendance.

Do not watch the bad football game. You have agency
We have reached Week 14 of the 2023 NFL season.
Which kicks off tonight on Thursday Night Football when the Pittsburgh Steelers — with Mitchell Trubisky at the helm in place of an injured Kenny Pickett — will host the Bailey Zappe-led New England Patriots, who at 2-10 are facing playoff elimination.
This … is certainly an NFL football game. One with an Over/Under set at 30, reminiscent of a Black Friday game a few weeks ago between Iowa and Nebraska.
Always bet responsibly.
Stephen A. Smith is the Abraham Lincoln of butts.
Water is wet. Taxes are inevitable. The Stephen A. Smith Show devolved into horny mayhem. Three great truths of out time, with SAS being the wildest of them all.
On Wednesday night Stephen A. spent almost FIVE MINUTES launching off a question about the type of woman he likes, and turning into his personal manifesto.
