Middle Tennessee has tabbed Derek Mason as the school’s new head coach, the program announced on Wednesday. 
“I am excited to be the 15th head coach at MTSU,” Mason said in a statement. “This is an emotional moment for me. This is the house that Rick Stockstill built and he left good bones and a strong foundation. He did a lot to raise and encourage these young men and help them take the journey. …I can’t wait to get started.”

The last month has been fertile for Kentucky football fans. First, the Wildcats survived a spirited attempt by Texas A&M to lure away coach Mark Stoops—the winningest boss in program history.
On Wednesday morning, Kentucky added to its success by landing a former five-star recruit at the quarterback position: Georgia’s Brock Vandagriff.
“Ready to get to work,” Vandagriff tweeted, along with a mock-up image of him in the Wildcats’ uniform.
A highly touted prospect when he graduated from Prince Avenue Christian School in Bogart, Ga.

Nobody is any closer to truly knowing where Shohei Ohtani will be playing baseball next year. The megastar, the crown jewel of free agency, is keeping everyone in the dark when it comes to his intentions. That’s entirely by design, and while it might be frustrating — it’s also kind of great.
Ohtani’s desire to keep a tight ship when it comes to his decision is antithetical to the 24-hour news cycle, and the feeding frenzy which surrounds free agency in sports.

If the NBA wanted to incentivize teams to play their hardest in the inaugural in-season tournament, it needed to come up with some prizes. Should teams play for automatic playoff seed? That’s what Philadelphia Eagles fans are yelling to David Carr after the veteran quarterback said that he believes the team should sit Jalen Hurts for Marcus Mariota, despite there still being a couple more weeks left in the regular season.
The comments came after Hurts was evaluated for a concussion during Sunday’s blowout 42-19 loss to the 49ers after getting pretty lit up from a hit. Hurts was deemed fit to return and finished with 298 passing yards and a touchdown, but it’s unclear if there are any lingering side effects.

The stunning phenomenon that is “The Eras Tour” thrilled fans from coast-to-coast, and is now entering its overseas portion. The success of her sixth concert tour reached such levels that it was turned into a movie, that saw theaters sold out and filled with singing and dancing Swifties.

Week 13 was tough in the injury department. Texans rookie receiver Tank Dell is done for the season, and it looks like Christian Kirk may be, too. Kenny Pickett has already had surgery on his high ankle sprain, while the Jaguars are remaining coy about Trevor Lawrence’s ankle injury, refusing to count him out for this week’s contest. Najee Harris popped up on Tuesday’s injury report, putting him in question in a short week for Thursday Night Football.
