Hard Knocks is just the gift that keeps on giving.
In the latest episode of the iconic HBO series, which features the Jets this season, the team’s quarterbacks had a bit of a fun exercise at the expense of Aaron Rodgers.
During a meeting, the Jets backup quarterbacks were shown two stills of Rodgers side-by-side during practice and given one direction: guess which one was a run and which one was a pass.
The game should be hard. After all, your star quarterback should be pretty good at faking runs. But it didn’t exactly go as you’d think.

Sam Kerr couldn’t do it alone
There will be no storybook ending for the host nation at the World Cup.
The Pro Bowler will have surgery Wednesday, according to NFL Network.
England women reached the World Cup final for the first time in their history following a stunning 3-1 win over co-hosts Australia on Wednesday.
An attorney for the Tuohy family responded to allegations made by former NFL offensive lineman Michael Oher on Monday, in which he said the family never actually adopted him but instead convinced him to sign a conservatorship with them to make money off his name. The Tuohys’ attorney, Martin Singer, called the move “outlandish” and said it was a “shakedown effort” in a statement to ESPN on Tuesday.
Singer said Oher threatened to go public with the story unless the family paid him $15 million.
Play action pass, m’lady
Every year we’re blessed with a new version of Bill Belichick in Madden, but this year’s is something incredible.

Belichick is not a member of the NFL Coaches Union, which means EA Sports would need to negotiate separately with Belichick to use his likeness, something they’ve never done — furthermore I can’t imagine what it be like to call Bill and ask him about this. He’d probably throw the phone and scream a whole lot.

Don’t melt, Brock.
Brock Purdy has a vice grip on the starting job for the 49ers this season. How much of a lock is Purdy to start? Well, it’s pretty damn definitive.
Kyle Shanahan told Albert Breer that “Brock Purdy would have to melt in practice to lose the starting job.”
I don’t even remember Shanahan talking about Garoppolo like this after 2017, but this is how you inject confidence into a second-year starting quarterback.
In an alternate universe, this could have been an incredible moment.
There’s an alternate universe where Luis Robert’s seventh inning home run on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field is an era-defining moment in Chicago sports. It could have been a symbolic ‘passing of the torch’ between a Cubs team that thrived in the second half of the 2010s — three straight NLCS appearances, one World Series championship — and a White Sox team poised to dominate the 2020s.
As a Yankees fan, I can’t wait for the playoffs to start, but for all the wrong reasons.
No, I’m not waiting for the postseason in hopes of the Yankees capturing another American League Championship or better yet, a World Series (Ha! these days?). Rather, I can’t wait for the playoffs to start so the Yankees disaster of a season can end.
Case in point, I’m watching last night’s game where the Yankees – almost in an attempt to deliberately lose – pitched Luis Severino. And he straight up stinks these days. No surprise here, they got shut out by the Braves 5-0.
Alabama football coach Nick Saban does not want to flip a coin to decide on a starting quarterback.
And it’s that close with No. 4 Alabama’s season opener on Sept. 2 against Middle Tennessee, and the real season opener on Sept. 9 against No. 11 Texas.
Leftover transfer portal addition Tyler Buchner from Notre Dame has not taken over the position left by NFL overall No. 1 pick Bryce Young – now with the Carolina Panthers. Buchner may be closer to third team than first at the moment, even though he played at Notre Dame for Alabama’s new offensive coordinator – Tommy Rees.
