McIlroy shot a 2-under 68 Saturday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, but some untimely poor decisions have made him a long shot for the title.
Rory McIlroy entered Saturday’s third round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship in need of a strong round on moving day. Despite playing well for stretches, missed opportunities and inconsistency in the tee box proved costly.
McIlroy shot a 2-under 68, but is now five shots back of leader Lucas Glover.

After an unceremonious booting from his seat with AlphaTauri ahead f the Hungarian Grand Prix, F1 driver Nyck de Vries said he’s going back to school.
The 28-year-old Dutch driver had some seriously high expectations to live up to heading into what was technically his rookie F1 season. However, he just couldn’t manage to get the results his team — and more critically, the folks at Red Bull — were looking for.

The 76ers’ efforts to find a trade partner for James Harden haven’t proven fruitful and now, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Philadelphia is expected to cease trade talks surrounding the 33-year-old and bring him back for training camp ahead of the 2023–24 campaign.
Wojnarowski indicates that the Clippers and 76ers held discussions over a potential deal for Harden, but nothing ever materialized between the two sides.

For the first time since June 17, MLB has witnessed a changing of the guards atop the home run leaderboard, as Braves All-Star Matt Olson ended Shohei Ohtani’s reign as king on Saturday afternoon.
With a two-homer outing against the Mets, Olson logged his 41st and 42nd HRs of the season in a 21–3 drubbing on the road, breaking a tie with Ohtani (40) to leap past the Angels superstar as the league leader.
The first of Olson’s moonshots came on a three-run, 422-foot bomb in the top of the sixth inning to put Atlanta up, 6–0.

Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young made his NFL preseason debut Saturday during Carolina’s clash against the Jets. 
The No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft was in the game for a bit more than one quarter before being replaced by backup Matt Corral. 
Young didn’t see too much action during the game, logging a total of six pass attempts. He completed four passes for 21 yards and was sacked once before making his leave early in the second quarter. The Panthers’ offensive line was struggling to protect the young quarterback, who took three QB hits against New York’s defense.

It appears that Michigan will have its coach to start 2023 after all.
Wolverines boss Jim Harbaugh will not be suspended four games to start the season after a deal he cut with the NCAA fell through, sources confirmed to Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde. The deal was not approved by the association’s Committee on Infractions and will now go to a full hearing.
The collapse of the negotiated deal was first reported by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports.
Reports on July 25 suggested that Harbaugh would miss the first four games of the upcoming season as part of an agreement with the NCAA.

The NFL preseason is underway, which means it’s time to shake off the cobwebs and get those mistakes out of the way before the regular season starts. Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis — and the team’s fans — will be happy he got this one out of him early.
Levis and company were in Chicago Saturday afternoon for a date with the Bears.
With time running out and the Titans down 23-17, Levis and Co. had the ball at the Chicago 36-yard line. On 3rd and 3 — after failing to connect with a wide-open receiver on the previous play — Levis aired one into the middle of the field.

Sports fans can definitely chalk a Saturday occurrence at the National Bank Open up under the category of “something you don’t see everyday”—or should we say hear everyday.
During play of the semifinal match in Montreal between Jessica Pegula and Iga Świątek, an American country folk song was suddenly blasted over the speakers. 
In the tiebreak of a close second set, the popular song “Cotton Eye Joe” rang out, interrupting play at a pivotal point of the match. Świątek was serving down 4–3 in the tiebreak after losing the first set 6–2, when play was halted.
