The San Diego Padres continue to be one of baseball’s most disappointing teams, and Juan Soto is calling out his teammates.
Since the start of July, it seemed like things were turning around in San Diego. After falling to the Cincinnati Reds on June 30th to sink to 37-45, the Padres went 18-11 to pull within a game of .500.
Heading into a huge four game weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego seemingly had momentum on its side and an opportunity to improve its postseason odds.

For Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, the day-to-day of learning a new offense, building rapport with his teammates and getting in reps to create a strong connection with pass-catchers should be more than enough for someone to have to shoulder. But his situation is different from any other player at his position.
Not only is Mayfield going through the normal process that a quarterback joining a new team must do, but he’s also competing for the starting job with Kyle Trask, who’s been with the team since 2021.

Terrell Davis is a Hall-of-Fame running back, former league MVP, and the all-time rushing yards leader for the Denver Broncos, but his playing days compared to today’s style of play are drastically different.

“It’s been really inconsistent. Some days we [grind], some days we don’t. We gotta do it every day. Days like this series, we just give up,” Soto said, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Tribune.

Struggling with your diet is a universal experience. Virtually everyone has experienced the late-night cravings and no one really enjoys not getting to eat until your heart’s content. Chargers star Joey Bosa is struggling with his weight goals as well, but he isn’t partaking in the average Jenny Craig diet.
Bosa told reporters Thursday that he spent the offseason eating roughly 5,000 calories per day in roughly five to six meals in order to get his weight up for the season—and was not having a good time.
“Eating isn’t really enjoyable these days,” Bosa said, per ESPN.

New Eagles linebacker Myles Jack didn’t know what his football future held for him when he went deep into the offseason unsigned.
The former second-round selection by the Jaguars had been staying in shape, working out and waiting for a phone call after being released by the Steelers in March. Eagles GM Howie Roseman called Jack last weekend, flew him in for a workout and on Sunday, he signed a contract with Philadelphia to bolster the team’s linebacker depth.
But if Jack didn’t latch on with a team, he wasn’t sure he would continue playing football.
