NFL Films has been chronicling the Dolphins during the regular season on Hard Knocks, and it’s evident that coach Mike McDaniel is a walking sound byte.
The second year coach in Miami has the Dolphins sitting at 8–3 on the season and atop the AFC East, but it’s his constant sense of humor with the media, and with fellow coaches that tells the story of what kind of guy he is.

Even with a full slate of games, Week 12 was fairly kind as far as injuries go — or so we thought.
Tuesday morning, fantasy managers received some bombshell news:

#Colts owner @JimIrsay confirms the injury and tells @RomeovilleKid that Jonathan Taylor will have surgery tomorrow and miss a couple weeks.
Source says no decision on Injured Reserve yet. It’s possible and will be decided later this week. https://t.

Cam Newton shared a truly wild story about why he ended up at Auburn instead of Mississippi State, and alcohol apparently played a role.
Newton landed at Auburn for one season after playing at Blinn College following his exit from Florida. He won the Heisman and led the Tigers to a national championship.
The dual-threat QB was absolutely electric, and despite allegations of his father attempting to land improper benefits, nothing was able to stop or slow down Auburn in 2010.
Prior to landing at Auburn, Mississippi State was also in the mix to sign Cam Newton.

I have warned Nationals president of baseball operations and general manager Mike Rizzo that I want to talk about baseball executive fashion, so he is ready when I approach.
“I’m wearing my lucky jeans,” he says proudly.
This interview is off to a good start, I think. He’s wearing the pants he wore when he got the job running the Nationals in 2009, surely, or perhaps the ones he had on when they won the World Series in ’19. General managers really do think about their attire. This is a great story idea.
I’m a good journalist, so I follow up. “What makes them lucky?” I ask.

Shane Steichen quickly moved up the rankings for Coach of the Year after many realized that he had the Colts currently in the playoffs after defeating the Buccaneers last week.
My Sports Illustrated colleague Conor Orr, however, didn’t just notice Steichen’s work because of Indianapolis’s three-game winning streak. The first-year coach has been on his radar since the tumultuous training camp in Indianapolis.

With Thanksgiving behind us, it’s time for the contenders to show themselves, and pretenders to recede into darkness.
Last weekend we saw plenty of both. On Thursday afternoon, the Cowboys essentially finished off the Commanders, and in the process the NFL saw corner DaRon Bland make history with his fifth pick-six of the season.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, we got our first look at this edition of the Steelers without offensive coordinator Matt Canada.

Shaquille O’Neal was not alongside his Inside the NBA pals on Tuesday night. Instead, he was sitting courtside in Miami calling the Bucks–Heat game with Kevin Harlan and Reggie Miller.
And the legendary big man did not disappoint.
One of Shaq’s best moments on the call came when Miller asked him to describe what “Heat Culture” means. Shaq, of course, won a championship with the Heat during his playing days and knows firsthand what that organization stands for each and every day.

The NBA in-season tournament has brought some sizzle to early-season games that might not otherwise attract attention beyond diehard basketball fans.
Tuesday night’s Bulls–Celtics matchup featured some tension between the teams’ head coaches due to the tournament’s rules regarding point differentials. Boston came into the game needing to win by at least 23 points to move ahead of the Magic and Nets in the Eastern Conference’s Group C standings. All three teams have a 3–1 record in the tournament.
