The Yankees pulled off a blockbuster trade Wednesday night, acquiring superstar Juan Soto from the Padres.
Soto will form a star-studded duo in the Yankees’ outfield with former AL MVP Aaron Judge, a tandem that already has earned a new nickname from general manager Brian Cashman.
The moniker? “Crazy Eights.”
But why? It’s a reference to baseball scouting verbiage.
“On a pro scouting scale of 20 to 80, how many teams are running out two eights in their outfield?” Cashman asked during his press conference with the media Thursday.

The Outlaws.
No, wait … the Bandits.
Hold on, I’ve got it: the Las Vegas Sinners.
The NBA is back in Las Vegas this week for the Final Four of its in-season tournament, which is a good reason to wonder why the NBA isn’t actually in Las Vegas. Sure, the Summer League has been a fixture in Sin City since 2004, while the IST will likely be there for years to come. And commissioner Adam Silver is fond of pointing out that it was the NBA, in 2007, that actually took to Vegas first.

How do you know if it’s a messy break-up? If one party donates the other party’s clothes to a Goodwill afterward.
Former Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith’s school-issued gear was spotted by a fan at a Goodwill store at an undisclosed location earlier this week. And it wasn’t just one or two crewnecks or quarter-zips—it looked like his whole wardrobe.
A TikTok user recently posted a video of himself rummaging through an entire section of Beavers-branded apparel at a Goodwill.
The NBA in-season tournament has added a lot of what the league hoped it would bring to the early regular-season schedule: stakes, eyeballs and a general sense that this season is different than seasons past.
It also has invited something traditionally reserved for April and May: officiating controversy, and more specifically officiating controversy surrounding the Lakers.
Nick Piazza, the Saints chain crew worker who suffered two torn ligaments, a fractured fibula and cartilage damage to his right knee in New Orleans’s game vs. the Lions on Sunday, spoke for the first time since the injury.
Piazza thanked all the fans who sent home presents and messages, and especially thanked running back Alvin Kamara, who ran into him to cause the injury, for signing a football and jersey as part of the Saints care package.
“I really appreciate the messages, care packages and medical treatment,” Piazza said, via Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com.
Ilya Kovalchuk was an absolute stud for the majority of his NHL career. He spent 14 seasons in the NHL mostly with the Atlanta Thrashers and New Jersey Devils, with spells in his native Russia interspersed.
I was shocked to learn this morning that at 40 years old, Kovalchuk is still playing pro hockey. He just signed a new deal in the KHL… after two years out of the game.
Kovalchuk signed a deal to finish this season with the league’s Spartak Moscow.

People going to the Army/Navy game this Saturday better be ready to open their wallets and shell out some cash.
The bitter rivalry game between the two service academies is one of the most prestigious events in all of sports. The pageantry is unrivaled. The setting features military members, heavy weapons and an incredible amount of love for the red, white and blue.
I went a few years ago when it was in Philly the day before the game, and got to watch a bunch of helicopters fly in.
It was epic, and a great reminder of American military power at it finest in a place of peace.

WHAT THE HECK?!
The Buffalo Bills just aren’t right. This season began with the expectation Buffalo would be an elite Super Bowl-worthy team that just had to get past the Chiefs in the AFC. Now they’re a middling 6-6 team that fired its offensive coordinator, is struggling against much worst competition, and had myriad issues entering the playoffs — assuming they can squeeze in at all.
At the center of this is head coach Sean McDermott, who has more than worn out his welcome.
