Lionel Messi continued his brilliant start to life in Miami, netting a pair of goals as Inter Miami defeated Orlando City SC 3–1 in the Leagues Cup. 
Since arriving in the United States, Messi has been nothing short of phenomenal, showing no signs of rust as he adapts to life at his new club. He scored a goal during the seventh minute of the match and added to his tab in the 72nd minute to add a cushion to Inter Miami’s lead. 
In just three games as an Inter Miami player, Messi has scored five goals and assisted one while leading the team to three consecutive victories.

The Cubs offense has been on a tear over its past two games, racking up runs at an absurd rate against the Reds. After scoring 20 runs during Tuesday’s rivalry clash, Chicago followed up that performance with 16 runs on Wednesday. 
The Cubs’ 36 runs over their past two games are the most by the franchise in any two-game span since 1897, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
Chicago won 20–9 on Tuesday and 16–6 on Wednesday, handily taking both games by a total margin of 21 runs.

There are plenty of questions surrounding the future of the Mets following the 2023 MLB trade deadline during which the organization were big sellers.
Following the departures of Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, among other key veterans, owner Steve Cohen spoke to reporters about Pete Alonso’s future with the franchise.

Diamondbacks pitcher Slade Cecconi was on the mound for his MLB debut on Wednesday against the Giants. The 24-year-old quickly picked up the first strikeout of his career, though it certainly wasn’t how he envisioned it going down.
During the first inning of the game, Cecconi was dueling against San Francisco’s Lamonte Wade Jr. In a full count, Cecconi threw an inside fastball that appeared to clip Wade’s hands. The ball then took a painful and unfortunate deflection right into catcher Jose Herrera’s midsection.

Lionel Messi has turned the MLS into child’s play since joining Miami FC, and his tour de force only gets more impressive with each passing game. Messi played his third game for Miami on Wednesday night against Orlando City, and it only been him a handful of minutes before he buried a shot in the back of the net.
Messi scored his fourth game for Inter Miami making a run deep into the box and hammering home a chip pass from teammate Robert Taylor.
