The final night of group play for the NBA in-season tournament delivered on drama and stakes, with multiple teams fighting for a spot in the knockout stage and pulling out all the stops to get there.
And that strong desire for teams to make the final eight also ignited a bit of a controversy—with point differential being one of the tiebreakers for group play, teams not only had to win, but in some instances, they had to win by a certain amount.
In layman’s terms, you could call this running up the score.

It’s good to be an offensive coordinator in college football, just ask Bobby Petrino. The new Arkansas OC agreed to a nice contract in his return to Fayetteville, which includes a country club membership and a pretty nice car allowance.
All of this is small potatoes to the amount of money he will be making in his return to Arkansas. As part of a two-year deal with the school, Bobby Petrino will be paid $1.6 million annually. For his work in December through February of 2024, the Razorbacks OC will make $350,000.
Just two and a half months ago, it looked like Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s season was over.
On Sept. 11, Rodgers tore his Achilles mere snaps into New York’s eventual 22–16 overtime win over the Bills. The Jets’ situation looked bleak, and the team has struggled mightily ever since to the tune of a 4–7 record.
However, New York’s fans received a glimmer of hope Wednesday when the team opened the 21-day window in which Rodgers can practice without occupying a roster spot.
Tyreek Hill had maybe the best touchdown celebration of the season in October when he took the phone from someone on the sideline and recorded himself doing a backflip against the Panthers. Hill was flagged for the play because players aren’t allowed to use props during touchdown celebrations and, apparently, the man on the sideline got an even harsher punishment.
NFL content creator Kevin Fitzgibbons took to social media Tuesday to announce that the league has suspended him for the rest of the year and added could possibly be fired for celebrating with Hill.
With the G League Ignite off to its worst start in franchise history since the team formed in 2020, starting this season 0-7, the annual questions are starting to arise about what is the best path for an NBA Draft prospect: pros or college.
Eight teams are still in the hunt for the crown when the knockout round begins Monday. Here’s where they all stand.
With four teams left in each conference, the NBA in-season tournament heads to the knockout round next week. Here’s what you need to know about the best remaining teams.
The USC women’s basketball team is having one of its best seasons ever, and it’s primarily thanks to a star freshman.
The Trojans are off to a 6–0 start and are ranked No. 6 in the latest AP poll. That’s their highest ranking since 1994. Their most recent win came on Tuesday night when they shellacked Cal Poly, 85–44, behind a history-making 30 points from JuJu Watkins.

Viktor Hovland has it all — expect for a major title
Guacamole might be the most basic indicator of Viktor Hovland’s ascension into golf stardom. Chipotle guacamole, to be specific.
After turning pro out of Oklahoma State, the former U.S. Amateur champion showed restraint for his budget by saying no to avocado. After winning the FedEx Cup at the end of last summer, staking his claim as king of the 2023 PGA Tour season, Hovland walked around storied East Lake Country Club smiling and eating a victory meal of Chipotle chips and guacamole.
Retired star wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson has an interesting take on how the Chicago Bears should approach the 2024 NFL Draft.
During an appearance on FS1’s Undisputed on Tuesday, Johnson said he believes the Bears should pass on taking a quarterback like USC’s Caleb Williams with the potential first overall pick in the draft and stick with Justin Fields as the team’s signal-caller. Instead of a new QB, Johnson says he’d give Fields a potential star receiver to throw to, drafting Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with a top pick.
