Victor Wembanyama is already a sensation even before ever his NBA regular-season debut, as the Spurs’ No. 1 draft pick has impressed fans with his smooth skills and freakish wingspan in preseason games. The buzz is so intense that even stars from other teams want to meet the French phenom.
That was no different for longtime point guard Chris Paul, who made sure to swap jerseys with Wembanyama after the Warriors–Spurs preseason game Friday night in San Francisco. The 12-time All-Star also got his picture taken with the ballyhooed rookie.

He had just blown his second straight save, and Craig Kimbrel was not interested in analyzing the particulars. What happened on that 3–2 fastball to Alek Thomas?
“Well, he hit it over the fence,” Kimbrel said.
If they had called upon someone other than their closer on Thursday and Friday night, the Phillies might be celebrating a pennant in the pool beyond the centerfield fence at Chase Field.

Derek Jeter is in his first year with Fox Sports, and the Yankees legend plays a relatively serious role on the network’s baseball broadcast team in contrast to David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez. While the rest of the panel tries to play up the all-Texas ALCS, Jeter has remained stoic throughout the series.
Following the Astros’ Game 5 victory over the Rangers on Friday, Ortiz brought out cowboy hats for the rest of the panel. However, while Rodriguez and Kevin Burkhardt happily put on the hats, Jeter coolly declined.

The shiny diversions are as plentiful as the Vegas strip at midnight. How umpire James Hoye and Rangers outfielder Adolis García overreacted to a hit by pitch. How Texas closer José Leclerc threw a 3-and-2 changeup to a guy who had not taken a competitive swing in 19 days—and still hasn’t. How Houston catcher Martín Maldonado is always suspect No. 1 when the proverbial flying eraser from the back of the room bounces off the whiteboard.
Don’t be distracted.

Every party needs a pooper, and that’s why they invited Derek Jeter.
The former New York Yankees captain took a no-nonsense approach to baseball. And that attitude has since followed him into his broadcasting career.
Some might even call him “a wet blanket.”
Ahead of Friday’s ALCS Game 5, David Ortiz surprised the Fox MLB crew with cowboy hats — an homage to Texas, the home state of both teams. And while Kevin Burkhardt and Alex Rodriguez happily played along, Jeter refused to put on the hat.
“New Yorkers do not wear these,” Jeter said as he carefully examined the cowboy hat.
