One day after collapsing on air before Real Madrid’s 3–2 exhibition win over AC Milan at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, ESPN analyst Shaka Hislop took to Twitter to update fans on his health.
“Well, that was awkward. What a 24 hours this has been,” Hislop said in a video tweeted by ESPN on Monday afternoon. “Every so often in life gives you a moment to pause and this was mine. There’s so much I have to be thankful for—my wife, kids, family, loved ones, friends.”
Hislop thanked the many people who reached out following the incident, which made news around the world.

The NFL suspended Broncos defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike for violating the NFL’s gambling policy, and it attracted a range of reactions on Monday as the league continues to bring the hammer down on offenders.
Uwazurike, a 2022 fourth-round pick out of Iowa State, received an indefinite suspension for “betting on games” during the ’22 season. The violation will sideline the 25-year-old for at least the ’23 season, with Uwazurike “eligible to petition for reinstatement no earlier than July 24, 2024.
A Division-III college in New York unveiled its first new stadium playing surface since 2006 last week and it immediately set the internet on fire— not unlike the field itself. SUNY Morrisville rolled out its brand-new, all-black turf.
Every inch of the field is jet black, except for hashmarks and boundary lines for multiple sports. Boise State, Eastern Washington, Eastern Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, and Central Arkansas all play on non-green turf fields. Not one of them is black.
SUNY Morrisville has the first all-black field in the country.
There’s a lot at stake for coach Kevin Stefanski and QB Deshaun Watson this season, but owner Jimmy Haslam isn’t eager to heap too much pressure on his team.
Team owner Jimmy Haslam said it’s “really dangerous” to float “now or never” timelines. But after the cloudy nature of the Browns’ past two years, expectations for 2023 aren’t exactly low.
Deshaun Watson is preparing for his first full season with the Cleveland Browns. The team traded for the quarterback prior to last season. However, the NFL suspended him for 11 games over sexual assault allegations — and subsequent civil lawsuits — from over 20 different massage therapists.
Watson played just six games last season and he didn’t perform particularly well. He completed just 58% of his passes, well-below the 69% he posted over his final three seasons in Houston.
This year, though, Watson is able to practice fully with the team during training camp and the preseason.
That was fast.
Miami wideout Tyreek Hill’s off-field drama centered on attacking a Haulover Marina employee in Miami-Dade county on Father’s Day this year is over after the NFL player settled with the employee.
On Monday, news dropped that Hill reached a deal with the Haulover Marina employee that called the cops on Hill for smacking him on the back of the head after he forbade Hill entrance on a boat.
“I’m No. 10 with the Miami Dolphins,” Hill exclaimed before hitting the employee.

The USWNT defeated Vietnam 3–0 in its opening game of the women’s World Cup, starting off their quest for a three-peat on the right foot. However, head coach Vlatko Andonovski said even though the team got the win, they left some opportunities on the pitch.
“Obviously we came here to win the game. And we did that,” Andonovski said, via The Los Angeles Times. “Unfortunately, we didn’t capitalize on all the opportunities, great opportunities, that we created. And that’s something that we’re certainly going to focus on.
Less than a week after reports emerged that he was set to take over as the new host of Monday Night Countdown, ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt addressed the issue on Monday and denied that he accepted the position.
The popular SportsCenter host discussed the situation while appearing as a guest on the Dan Patrick Show. Though he refuted that he’s even been offered the job, he acknowledged that there have been “conversations” about him taking over as the pregame show’s host and that it could still happen.
As the NFL continues to crack down on its gambling policy, another player has been handed an indefinite suspension. The league confirmed on Monday that Broncos DE Eyioma Uwazurike will be suspended indefinitely after it was discovered he had placed bets on league games during the 2022 season.
As a result of his suspension, Uwazurike will miss the entire 2023 NFL season. He’ll first be eligible to petition for his reinstatement on July 24, 2024.
The Broncos released a statement regarding Uwazurike’s suspension on Monday, via The Denver Post.
