The start of NFL training camps is a time to begin anew. It’s a time for hope and optimism. Drama and distractions drive coaches crazy.
So it’s little surprise multiple NFL teams and players did some last minute work to handle potential pressure points of distraction and drama on the eve of training camp.
Consider:

Two days after the RB’s met on Zoom, Barkley screwed them over.
Saquon Barkley was in a position to be an agent of change. The Giants running back was the first to break his silence amid the running back pay controversy, saying he would sooner sit out than be underpaid.
Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron — inarguably one of, if not the best two-way players in NHL history — has announced that he is calling it a career.
Bergeron spent 19 seasons with the Bruins, and on Tuesday he announced his retirement in a statement on the team’s website.
“For the last 20 years I have been able to live my dream every day,” Bergeron wrote. “I have had the honor of playing in front of the best fans in the world wearing the Bruins uniform and representing my country at the highest levels of international play.
Bronny James, LeBron James’ oldest child, suffered cardiac arrest during a basketball workout at USC on Monday morning. The 18-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is now in stable condition.
A family spokesperson shared a statement with NBA insider Shams Charania writing the following:
“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU.
The result of the United States women’s national team’s 2023 FIFA World Cup debut looked good on paper to many fans, but with sky-high expectations comes a bit more criticism. The number of opportunities squandered by the USWNT jumped off the page, as they outshot Vietnam 28–0 but managed just three goals and seven shots on target.
When all was said and done, the USWNT will happily take the three points and use the opening performance as one to build upon. Star forward Alex Morgan echoed that sentiment, preaching the need for the team to exercise “a little more patience.

Bronny James has been released from the ICU after a scary incident at practice on Monday.
Bronny James collapsed on the court and went into cardiac arrest on Monday morning during a practice session with the USC Trojans, according to TMZ. James was taken to the hospital, treated, and sent home. He is now in stable condition, per TMZ.
James was reportedly unconscious as he fell to the floor during practice. The 18-year-old son of LeBron James — whose legal name is LeBron James Jr. — is starting his freshman year at USC.
Not all home runs are created equal. Of course, some go farther than others, leave the bat at greater speeds or make a bigger impact on the game. But some just look cooler than the rest—like this one Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy hit on Monday night against the Blue Jays.
With the bases empty and Los Angeles trailing Toronto 3–2 in the bottom of the eighth, Muncy pounced on a hanging changeup from Trevor Richards. He crushed it 435 feet with an exit velocity of 109.2 mph.
But it wasn’t just how far or how hard Muncy hit the ball that made it pleasing to watch.
Live from Lions training camp, we have your Tuesday notes …
• Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is incurring fines of $50,000 per day, so clearly his negotiation with the Chiefs isn’t in a very good place—no NFL player would even get to three days into camp, and run that meter up to $150,000 without having a serious issue with the tone of talks.
What’s the problem? My stab at it is that the two sides have an Aaron Donald issue.
Bronny James, incoming USC freshman basketball player and son of Lakers star LeBron James, suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice with the team Monday.
According to a statement from the James family via The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Bronny collapsed on the court and was taken to the hospital. He is in stable condition and no longer in the ICU after being tended to by the team’s medical staff.

Katie Ledecky is awesome, part 10446575584
BREAKING: Katie Ledecky is really, really good at swimming.
The US swimmer was in Japan for the finals of the 1500 meter freestyle swim (a medal she has won four straight times) and she quite legitimately left the opposition in the dust (well, water? Water dust? I don’t know, I’ll workshop it).
Ledecky, who also owns the 16 fastest times OF ALL TIME in the 1500 meter freestyle, is also so good that she creates memes because of how fast she is.
