Rivalry week is always special in college football. Few deliver like this one did, and the chaos arrived not a moment too soon. Next year the spite will still be there for many games, but the last Saturday of the regular season will look slightly different. Oregon and Washington will play each other, and the Apple Cup will move to the beginning of the season. It’s unclear if Oregon and Oregon State will continue to play. Texas will likely be playing Texas A&M, a welcome return after a long hiatus.

Isaiah Bond caught a desperation fourth-and-goal heave in the left corner of the end zone with 32 seconds left to give Alabama a 10th straight win over Auburn and keep the Crimson Tide’s title hopes alive Saturday night.
LeBron James said returning to Cleveland is “just special” and that helping to end the city’s championship drought is something he’ll always remember.
As the 2023 season has progressed, Georgia has marched ever closer to history.
The Bulldogs are chasing their third consecutive national championship, something that by most measurements hasn’t been accomplished since Minnesota’s 1930s dynasty. However, Georgia has quietly moved amassed one of college football’s longest winning streaks.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs topped Georgia Tech, 31–23, to win their 29th consecutive game. The win gave them sole possession of the longest winning streak in SEC history.
For years, a strict set of rules has governed the way FCS football programs transition to FBS. They have decent intentions behind them—they’re meant, in theory, to prevent teams from making the leap too quickly and facing a debilitating financial crunch.
However, those rules have come under more scrutiny this year than any year before it. That’s largely due to the feats of James Madison, which roared to an 11–1 record in just its second year as an FBS program.
NCAA rules prevent teams transitioning from FCS to FBS from participating in bowl games for the first two years.
Much has been made of the Patriots‘ quarterback controversy since their most recent game, an uninspiring 10–6 loss to the Colts on Nov. 12.
However, coach Bill Belichick has reportedly made a decision: per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, New England will start Mac Jones on Sunday against the Giants.
Numerous reports this week suggested that Belichick had played his decision close to the vest, with both Jones and quarterback Bailey Zappe drilling with the first-team offense.
Against Indianapolis, Jones completed 15 of 20 pass attempts for 170 yards and an interception.
College football’s final week of the regular season did not disappoint.
With rivalry matchups abound across the sport, there was plenty of competitive football to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving weekend.
In the headliner of the week, No. 3 Michigan outlasted No. 2 Ohio State, 30–24, in the Big House, as the Wolverines won their third consecutive game in the rivalry and punched their ticket to the Big Ten title game.
Elsewhere, No.
Rivalry weekend is in the books, and it didn’t lack for drama. Three teams seem to have a lock on the College Football Playoff, with one spot up for grabs entering championship week.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has seen both ends of the football weather spectrum during his playing and coaching career.
Once upon a time, the Miami boss was a wide receiver at Yale. Though the Bulldogs and Ivy League don’t typically play past mid-November, McDaniel no doubt got a taste of biting New England autumns.
On the other hand, McDaniel is in his second year with the Dolphins, and presumably acclimated to a balmier existence.
With a tumultuous 5-7 season in the rearview mirror, Mississippi State is reportedly set to turn to one of college football’s top assistants as its next head coach.
The Bulldogs are closing in on a deal to hire Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby as their next head coach, according to a Saturday night report from Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports.
Lebby, 39, has served as the Sooners’ offensive coordinator for two years under coach Brent Venables. Oklahoma scored 43.2 points per game this season, the third-highest average in the country entering Saturday.
