Colorado has decided that leaving the Pac-12 for the Big-12 is the best move forward for the school. After the board of directors approve the move to the conference, Colorado officials will formally apply for membership in the Big 12, according to Brett McMurphy

The decision to move on from the Pac-12 has been brewing for a while now. After joining the Pac-12 in 2011, the moves of USC and UCLA set-off a ticking time bomb within the conference.

Shohei Ohtani is off the trade market. After fielding various trade offers for Ohtani and holding internal discussions the past two days, the Angels decided late Wednesday afternoon not only to hold Ohtani but also to be buyers in advance of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, according to a source familiar with the club’s decision.
Los Angeles entered play Wednesday four games out of a wild-card spot. It last reached the postseason in 2014. Its eight-year playoff drought is tied with that of Detroit for the longest current drought.

Reclaiming former league member Colorado is the “common denominator in every scenario” the Big 12 has been considering, sources said. On Wednesday, Colorado had a board of regents meeting and then scheduled another one for Thursday afternoon. Big 12 leadership also had a meeting scheduled for Wednesday night.

Major League Baseball has decided to give Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Angel Perdomo a few days off after he clobbered San Diego Padres star Manny Machado with a pitch.
That kind of thing happens, of course, but this seemed far from accidental.
On Tuesday night, Perdomo was on the hill in the bottom of the seventh in a close, 2-1 game between the Padres and Pirates in San Diego.
Padres left fielder Juan Soto got a hold of the 3-1 pitch and blasted a solo homer into the right field seats.

The extension ensures that Manfred will run the sport through the 2028 season, despite a series of controversies.
Most famously, Manfred moved the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta after pressure from liberal sportswriters, activists and President Joe Biden.
