Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has played just two games since returning from the toe injury that kept him sidelined for the better part of two months.
With New York’s superstar back in the lineup, the Yankees are gearing up for a playoff push, though it certainly won’t be easy.
Speaking to reporters after Saturday night’s win over the Orioles, Judge shared his thoughts on the team’s chances of sneaking into the postseason.
“I wouldn’t count us out,” said Judge, via the YES Network.

When the Mets signed Max Scherzer almost 20 months ago, it felt like a new era for the franchise, ushering in a time of high payrolls and even higher expectations under owner Steve Cohen.
Now? That all feels very distant. With their season in shambles, the Mets are trading Scherzer to the Rangers for middle infield prospect Luisangel Acuña, the younger brother of Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña, Jr. The deal is more than a rental: The 39-year-old Scherzer will reportedly be exercising his player option to stay in Texas for 2024, too, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
In the wake of rumors naming Cardinals star Nolan Arenado as a potential trade candidate, team president John Mozeliak issued a statement on Saturday addressing the team’s plans for its All-Star third baseman.
Arenado, 32, has been one of several players mentioned around the league ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline, with a move to the Dodgers among the most persistent rumors.
Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters Saturday that running back Sony Michel informed him of his decision to retire from the NFL, according to Andrew Siciliano.
Michel was set to enter his sixth season in the league, having spent the 2022 campaign in Los Angeles with the Chargers where he was featured sparingly across 10 games.
Michel had latched back on for a second stint with the Rams this offseason, having re-signed with the team in June.
The downsizing New York Mets on Saturday traded star pitcher Max Scherzer to the first-place Texas Rangers, after the ace, who had a no-trade clause, approved the deal, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan, confirming multiple reports.
After NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had requested to be traded, franchise owner Jim Irsay took the contentious contract impasse to the next level.
Earlier Saturday, Rapoport reported that Irsay and Taylor met aboard the Indianapolis owner’s private luxury bus in an attempt to repair the relationship between the two sides as both parties appear dug in regarding a potential contract extension. However, not only did the two sides not come any closer to an agreement in the meeting, but the star back has now demanded to be traded.
There was a scary moment between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels when a pitch drilled outfielder Taylor Ward in the face.
In the top of the 5th inning, Ward stepped to the plate with the bases loaded against Toronto righty Alek Manoah. Manoah wound up and winged a 92mph sinker with an 0-2 count, only it went high and inside and hit Ward.

Fortunately, medical personnel got to Ward soon, but that’s nasty.
Aaron Judge missed nearly two months. He’s still tied for sixth in the AL in homers.
Colts running back Jonathan Taylor requested a trade following a meeting with franchise owner Jim Irsay, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Rapoport reported that Irsay arrived at Colts practice and met with the fourth-year back on board his private luxury bus. The move from the Indianapolis owner seemingly came in an attempt to repair the relationship with the club’s top position player amid reports that the two sides remained far apart on a potential contract extension.
The future of U.S. baseball seems to be in pretty good hands.
The U.S. 12 and under baseball team opened its World Cup schedule on Saturday by playing New Zealand. And they did not mess around.
The U.S. team started with three runs in the first inning, then added eleven more in the second.
14-0 would be bad enough, but the third inning is where the game really got out of control. Thanks to two home runs by Bryant Ju, the U.S. team put up 20 runs in a single inning. Yeah. A 34-0 lead after three innings.
