Michael Mariot turns 35 next month. He’s played baseball his entire life. But he reached the point that it seemed the game was done with him. Thus, he was just about done with it. And then, the Cincinnati Reds called.
The Kansas City Royals drafted Mariot in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He spent four seasons in the minors before making his big-league debut in 2014.
He pitched in 17 games as a rookie in 2014 for the Royals. Although he did not make the team’s postseason roster, he still earned a World Series ring.

Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani was expected to serve as the designated hitter during Monday’s tilt against the Orioles, but was scratched from the lineup a bit over an hour before first pitch, per an announcement from the team.
The organization indicated that Ohtani would be unavailable for the game against Baltimore due to right oblique tightness.
Ohtani took batting practice ahead of the game on Monday but was later removed from the lineup, which originally had him listed as the team’s No. 2 hitter.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is out for at least the first four games of this NFL season. Colt McCoy, who started six games over the past two seasons for the Cardinals in place of an injured Murray, presumed to begin the season as the team’s starter.
But in a surprise move, head coach Jonathan Gannon and the team decided to cut the veteran backup. As OutKick’s Armando Salguero reported at the time, the move didn’t even make financial sense.
