Another game on the MLB calendar simply means Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani breaks yet another record held by one of baseball’s greatest players.
The 2021 American League MVP added to his major league-leading home run tally when he crushed a fastball from White Sox reliever Kendall Graveman over the left-center field wall for his 29th of the season.

Peter Kuest, who qualified for the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Monday, sits on top of the leaderboard after 18 holes.
Detroit Rock City has long been the town of gritty underdogs, and this notion was on full display during the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Peter Kuest, who made it into the field through a Monday qualifier, shot an 8-under 64 Thursday at the Detroit Golf Club.
Ernie Johnson received some very special news from his TNT co-star Charles Barkley during Thursday night’s coverage of The Match.
Barkley told his longtime Inside the NBA co-worker Johnson that he will be inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. The producers gave Barkley the job of sharing the news, which the NBA legend called an “honor and a privilege” to do so.
Johnson couldn’t believe it when Barkley broke the news.
“Get out of here,” Johnson said. “Chuckster, what are you talking about? … That is awesome. Thank you so much.
Rickie Fowler’s been riding a bit of momentum after a strong finish in the U.S. Open at LA Country Club.
While he did struggle after a hot start, Fowler still finished tied for fifth, a great result for a player who’s been entirely off leaderboards in recent years.
During the first round of this weekend’s tournament, the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Fowler seemed to be bringing some of that excellent play to Detroit.
At least until the final two holes.
Fowler got to the 17th hole at -7, on track for a first round 65.
But he bogeyed 17 and 18, finishing at “just” -5 for a 67.
The starting lineups for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game are officially set.
This year’s Midsummer Classic will be held at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, marking the third time the Emerald City has hosted the game. The league had two rounds of voting to determine the starters for the annual exhibition game—the first to narrow down a collection of finalists, and a second this week to settle on the starting players.

Warriors guard Steph Curry joined Smylie Kaufman ahead of The Match to talk life, basketball, golf and even President Barack Obama.
Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry has been known during his professional basketball career as a money player. He is a four-time NBA Champion, an NBA Finals MVP and is considered the greatest shooter in the history of basketball.
But what many people don’t know about Curry is how great he is on the golf course. He is a near scratch golfer, which is insanely impressive for a pro of another sport.
Saquon Barkley is clearly not allowing his contract situation with the Giants to deter him from hitting the weight room in peak fashion.
On Thursday, the two-time Pro Bowler posted an eye-popping video to his Twitter page displaying him squatting an insane amount of weight.
The fourth-year back, who rushed for a career-high 1,312 yards last season, was shown squatting 585 pounds—while barefoot! The former Penn State standout didn’t just squat the impressive weight one time either. In fact, the video shows him completing four reps with absolute ease.

“The Match” is annual charity golf match between stars from around the sports world. This year’s version features Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs teammates Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce facing former NBA champion Golden State Warriors teammates Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. The event is hosted by Ernie Johnson and the TNT crew, including Charles Barkley.
Why is Charles Barkley hosting a golf event? Because he’s the best broadcaster in sports television. TNT has a chance to get him on TV and they’re going to do it.
Really, the same can be said for Ernie Johnson.
The James Harden era in Philadelphia appears to be nearing an end, as the former MVP has opted into his 2023–24 player option with the intention of being traded away from the 76ers. Reports of Harden and the team’s plan sent shockwaves throughout the basketball world, and it didn’t take long for league insiders to speculate where the former MVP could end up next.
While the situation is still in the early stages, one team has been routinely mentioned as a serious suitor for Harden’s services: the Clippers.
If the plan doesn’t work… ditch it.
That’s what perennial NBA All-Star James Harden is thinking after reports Thursday confirmed that Harden and his current team, the Philadelphia 76ers, will begin exploring trade options for the veteran guard.
To still secure the bag, Harden opted into his salary option with the Sixers for next season.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, “James Harden is opting into his $35.6 million deal for next season — in order for the 10-time All-Star and the 76ers to work together on a trade out of Philadelphia.
