We had fists flying and flagpoles on the loose at last weekend’s homecoming college football game between HBCU schools Morgan State and Norfolk State.
If you’ve ever covered an HBCU game, you know what I’m talking about. I have, and the bands are EVERYTHING there.
I covered Bethune-Cookman for years down here in Daytona Beach, and the annual game between Florida A&M over in Orlando was the biggest thing all season.
And it had way less to do with the two teams on the field and more to do with the bands at halftime.

Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti met with conference athletic directors once again on Thursday, as the investigation into Michigan continues. As the NCAA looks into the sign-stealing allegations, Petitti is hearing the frustration from member institutions.
All of this comes on the heels of the highly publicized situation in Ann Arbor, Michigan involving staffer Connor Stalions. While the NCAA is on Michigan’s campus, questions continue to be raised as to what commissioner Tony Petitti can actually do.
The race to the Big 12 championship is wide open, and based on the recent College Football Playoff rankings, Texas (No. 7) is still in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs.

Purdue coach Ryan Walters added some spice to Week 10’s matchup with No. 2 Michigan. During his weekly radio show, the first-year coach directly addressed the allegations of sign-stealing against the Wolverines.
“It’s unfortunate,” Walters said to host Tim Newton, per the Lafayette Journal & Courier. “What’s crazy is they aren’t allegations. It happened.”
“There’s video evidence. There’s ticket purchases and sales that you can track back,” the coach added. “We know for a fact that they were at a number of our games.
Of all the weeks, this might be the best slate of NFL football yet in 2023.
Early on Sunday, it’s the Chiefs and Dolphins battling in Germany for best record in the AFC. In the early window, we get a terrific interconference tilt between the Ravens and Seahawks in Baltimore.
Then, the late window provides an incredible NFC East matchup with the Cowboys going to Lincoln Financial Field to play the Eagles. Then, finally, the Bengals host the Bills on Sunday night.

On Thursday morning, Jon Rahm broke the news that he was reversing course and would not participate in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new TGL Golf League.
His departure leaves one spot to fill and complete the lineup of 24 players.
There are six teams that require four players each. The Boston Common Golf team became the first squad announce their entire roster, comprised of Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Keegan Bradley and Adam Scott.
With James Harden out of Philadelphia, Joel Embiid is not wasting time or sugarcoating his reflection about sharing the floor with ‘The Beard.’
It’ll come as a surprise to absolutely no one that Harden immediately began running his mouth about his time with the Sixers after arriving in Los Angeles to join the Clippers.
The chaos surrounding Michigan, Connor Stalions and an alleged cheating scandal simply doesn’t stop.
The Wolverines are currently facing allegations of running an incredibly elaborate cheating scheme in order to steal signs. Stalions, the alleged mastermind, is currently suspended.
