The University of West Georgia is moving up to NCAA Division I competition as a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference, effective July 1, 2024, the school announced Friday. Additionally, West Georgia’s football team will be part of the United Athletic Conference, which is an alliance between the ASUN and the Western Athletic Conference.
West Georgia has been a force in the Gulf South Conference of NCAA Division II since 1983, winning 11 basketball titles, two football championships and at least one title in eight other sports during that span.

Sunday’s U.S. Open men’s final will feature the tournament’s two remaining headliners. As major productions go, you’d also be hard-pressed to find a stronger opening act. Before the match, Arthur Ashe Stadium will turn into a 25,000-seat concert hall as Grammy-winning opera baritone Will Liverman performs “America the Beautiful/Lift Every Voice and Sing.” He’ll be accompanied on piano by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Metropolitan Opera music director, who also directs the orchestras in Philadelphia and his hometown of Montreal.

Rory McIlroy did not have his best round at the Irish Open Friday, as his driver sorely let him down.
Many have claimed Rory McIlroy to be the best driver of the golf ball the game has ever seen.
Others disagree, and those who do had a strong argument on Friday at The K Club.
McIlroy hit only five of 14 fairways during his second round of the Horizon Irish Open, as he found the short grass just once on the back nine.

ESPN personalities are feuding with Nick Adams, Alpha Male.
Wednesday, Adams fumed over ESPN for re-signing Mina Kimes to a $1.7 million a year contract. He prefers his sports talk to consist of “alpha males who go to Hooters.” Not folks like Kimes.
“Kimes has never played a down of football in her life, yet she will be paid $1.7 million a year to talk about it on woke ESPN,” posted Adams. “ESPN is no longer about sports, it’s about promoting equity among the genders!”
Kimes responded to Adams’ post with a video of herself punting a football.

Before teeing it up in the first round of this week’s Irish Open, Rory McIlroy was given the very simple yet incredibly important mission of meeting a seven-year-old named Michael Horgan. Not only did the four-time major winner get to meet his young fan, he got to play a hole with him by his side.
Horgan is from Dublin, Ireland, and bravely lives with a brain tumor. He and his family were invited to attend the Irish Open through Make-A-Wish Ireland, and before arriving, Horgan explained that his wish was to receive a personalized message from his favorite golfer.

There have been some problems at this year’s edition of the US Open. First, players dealt with intense heat. Then you had a cloud of pot smoke hanging above one of the courts like a Dead & Company show was happening next door. Then, on Thursday night some dopes staged an environmental protest, one of whom glued his feet to the stands.
Why? I don’t know. I’m not even sure they really know why they did it.
But speaking of environmentalist dopes, the Associated Press pointed out yet another issue plaguing the US Open: the number of tennis balls.
