The World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers ran themselves out of a shot at keeping their undefeated season alive in a 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night that stuck them at 8-1 on the season.
The Brooklyn Dodgers got off to a 10-0 start in 1955.
This year’s Dodgers can blame their first loss on sloppy and silly baserunning.
“When you give a good team outs and shorten the game,” manager Dave Roberts said, “then it’s hard to win. It’s hard to beat a good team.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points, Evan Mobley added 25 points and 10 rebounds and the Cleveland Cavaliers held on to beat the San Antonio Spurs 114-113 on Friday to move a game away from clinching the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Cleveland never trailed and led by 23 points in winning its third straight. The Cavaliers have won six of seven and are a win or a Boston loss from clinching the East’s best record for the sixth time in franchise history.
Despite the early dominance, Cleveland had to hold on to beat San Antonio.
On a team with superstars Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, it would be easy for any freshman to be overshadowed.
But UConn women’s basketball‘s Sarah Strong is no ordinary freshman. The No. 1 overall recruit in the 2024 class is making quite an impact in the 2025 women’s NCAA Tournament.
Strong had 22 points, 17 rebounds and four assists in a 78-64 win over USC in the Elite Eight last week, then carried that performance to the Final Four against UCLA at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, on Friday.

Giddey had 15 points, 19 rebounds and 12 assists for his sixth triple-double of the season. The Bulls are 10th in the Eastern Conference, the lowest position they can finish.
Deni Avdija led Portland with 37 points. Coming off a victory in Toronto on Thursday night, the Trail Blazers went 2-3 on a five-game trip. They are 12th in the West.

I had a feeling that when news broke that the Great One was going to be in the house, something special was going to happen, and Alexander Ovechkin delivered the goods by scoring two goals to tie Wayne Gretzky for the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring lead at 894 goals each.
Ovechkin came into the night two off of Gretzky’s mark and three away from passing the record.
He had a good chance to do some scoring with the struggling Chicago Blackhawks, a team that came into the night having given up the third-most goals in the entire league.
