The veteran got hit in the hand by a pitch during the WBC quarterfinals Saturday night.
Astros second baseman José Altuve will need surgery to repair the broken right thumb he suffered during the World Baseball Classic, the team confirmed on Sunday.
The injury occurred Saturday night in Venezuela’s quarterfinal game against Team USA, when pitcher Daniel Bard hit Altuve in the hand with a fastball. Altuve left the game in apparent pain and subsequently was evaluated.
There is not a current timetable for Altuve to return to action, according to Houston general manager Dana Brown.

Jason Sudeikis is seemingly at the top of the world right now, as Season 3 of Ted Lasso is about to premier on Apple TV. While the actor portrays a soccer coach on the popular show, he also has shown he’s a good athlete in real life.
That point was proven Saturday, when Sudeikis attended the Knicks–Nuggets game with several castmates at Madison Square Garden. After the game, Sudeikis got a chance to play around on the court and, of course, he drained a three-pointer from the top of the key on his first try.

Smoke emitted from The Vatican this morning signaling than Brandin Cooks had finally been traded. Cooks was dealt to the Cowboys after having sat on the trade block for what seems like a decade.
The Big J’s were quick to report that Cooks heads to Dallas in exchange for a couple of late round draft picks. One pick heads to Houston this year and another, next. Chances are, come this April and next, you’ll have no idea the names of the players selected by the Texans.
Anyways, I’m just glad Cooks got traded.

The senior guard continued to shine for the Bruins on Saturday night.
As UCLA advanced to the Sweet 16 on Saturday night with a win over Northwestern, guard Jaime Jaquez Jr. moved up in the Bruins’ record books. The senior guard scored 24 points to move into 12th place on the school’s all-time scoring list, passing the great Bill Walton.
To congratulate Jaquez, Walton recorded a video expressing his admiration for the guard, showering Jaquez with praise for being a star at UCLA. As usual, Walton utilized his wit, wisdom and colorful vocabulary in celebrating the current Bruins standout.
