Tampa Bay adds the former No. 1 pick as their potential starting quarterback in 2023.
The Buccaneers have their new starting quarterback, signing Baker Mayfield to a one-year, $8.5 million contract. It’s a prove-it deal for the former No. 1 overall pick, who will have now played for four teams in the last three years.
Mayfield had a solid rookie season, posting a rookie record 27 touchdown passes and averaging 17.2 fantasy points per game. Unfortunately, it’s been all downhill since then. In fact, he’s failed to average more than 15.

The wide receiver didn’t appear to be too pleased.
Following the news the Eagles will reportedly release cornerback Darius Slay, star wide receiver A.J. Brown appeared to respond to the decision on social media.
Slay’s camp and Philadelphia’s front office were unsuccessful in renegotiating his contract, and the five-time Pro Bowler is now set to hit free agency. Brown didn’t seem too pleased with the decision, as minutes after the report surfaced, the Eagles wideout posted a GIF of an exasperated Jonah Hill on his Twitter account.
The former Bears running back stays in the NFC North with the move to Detroit.
The first big-name free agent running back is off the board, as the Lions have signed David Montgomery to a three-year, $18 million deal. He’ll take over the role Jamaal Williams thrived in last year, as he scored a franchise-best 17 touchdowns.
Montgomery is coming off a subpar season in the stat sheets, posting 891 rushing yards, six total touchdowns and 177.7 fantasy points. That was good enough for him to finish as the RB24.

(Yes, we’re all waiting Aaron)!
Lazard is coming off a 2022 season that saw him finish as the WR34, posting 60 receptions for 788 yards and six touchdowns. He also averaged a career-high 52.5 yards and 11.
Tampa Bay appears to have found the successor to Tom Brady.
The Buccaneers are reportedly close to bringing aboard the successor to Tom Brady: former No. 1 pick Baker Mayfield.
Tampa is finalizing a deal with Mayfield, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, paving the way for the 27-year-old to become the team’s starting quarterback in 2023. Mayfield will not be able to officially sign the deal until the new league year begins Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
Pelissero reports that Mayfield and the Bucs reached an agreement on a one-year deal, worth up to $8.5 million.
Mayfield, the No.
“I want to take his title. I want to take his soul.”
Kamaru Usman is currently sitting on the wrong side of history.
And that is a part of his story he fully intends to rewrite. Usman lost in dramatic fashion to Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 278 last summer, getting knocked out by a head kick with less than a minute remaining in the fifth round. Despite controlling the second, third, fourth and vast majority of the fifth, standing close to a unanimous decision and a record-tying victory, Usman instead became an enduring part of Edwards’s highlight reel.
The NFL punter-turned-host is in the second year of his contract with the company.
Pat McAfee’s rise through the sports media world saw him land a massive deal from FanDuel less than two years ago, but the former Pro Bowl punter is reportedly considering shaking up his situation yet again.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, McAfee could exit his four-year, $120 million deal with the company. He is currently in the middle of his second year with FanDuel on a contract that pays him more than $30 million a year.
At 25 years old, Stetson Bennett is older than quite a few quarterbacks that are currently in the NFL. He is hoping to join them in 2023 and it starts with the NFL Draft in April.
Before Bennett and his Georgia teammates reach that point, they must partake in the pre-draft process. It started with the NFL Combine last month and continued with the Pro Day in Athens on Wednesday.
Although a Pro Day script is catered to a specific quarterback’s strength, Bennett looked solid. He also got to share a really cool moment with his younger brother.
