The Chicago White Sox may not have spent as much money as the New York teams or the San Diego Padres. But they’ve been nearly as disappointing.
On the field, the White Sox have been one of baseball’s worst teams. They were effectively eliminated from playoff contention within a few weeks, stumbling to a 49-76 record in late August.
Unsurprisingly, the team sold their few valuable players at the trading deadline, with Lance Lynn sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lucas Giolito traded to Anaheim, and Keynan Middleton to the Yankees.

Two-time league MVP A’ja Wilson has had no shortage of memorable nights during her professional career. But she’s never had a performance like the one she turned in on Tuesday against the Dream.
Wilson poured in 53 points to tie the league’s single-game scoring record, leading the Aces to a 112–100 victory. Her scoring outburst tied the mark set by Liz Cambage in 2018.
Wilson was a master of efficiency on Tuesday, hitting on 16 of 23 shot attempts while going a blistering 20-for-21 on free throw attempts.

Justin Verlander had an issue with his PitchCom device during his start on Tuesday against the Red Sox, causing a brief delay in the game while the problems were sorted out.
The announcers indicated that Verlander was initially handed a Spanish version of the PitchCom device when he first requested a change, which he sent back to the dugout in exchange for one in English, further extending the delay.
That didn’t seem to sit well with Boston manager Alex Cora, who came out to discuss the situation with the umpires.
