There were a lot of firsts for Pope Leo XIV.
He is the first American-born pope, but it’s also safe to say he’s the first pope in the Catholic Church’s long, long history who sent the media scurrying to figure out what baseball team he was a fan of. Specifically, was the Chicago-born pontiff a Cubs fan or a White Sox fan?
Early reports said he was a Cubs fan, but those were wrong, and it turned out that Pope Leo is a big White Sox fan.
So, it’s only fitting that his first address directed to Americans as pope took place at Rate Field, home of the White Sox.
Sam Burns is one round away from a U.S. Open title with no margin for error after Saturday’s round of 69 left him with a one-shot lead.
OAKMONT, Pa. – We have one round to go at big, bad Oakmont Country Club, which was drenched by heavy rains late Friday and into the morning on Saturday.
The venerable layout was softened, sure, but it still played tough.
And through three days, just four players sit under par – leader Sam Burns at 4 under; J.J. Spaun and Adam Scott a shot back; and Viktor Hovland at 1 under.
Assuming the champion will come from one of Sunday’s final two pairings, here’s a look at the potential winners and their prospects of winning this 125th U.S.
Jaylen Brown will lead the Boston Celtics next season. He will step into the void left behind by Jayson Tatum, who will miss the 2025-26 campaign due to injury. Brown’s scoring and improved playmaking make him the most logical option to lead Joe Mazzulla’s roster throughout the year.
However, there is a slight chance Brad Stevens could part with Brown before he gets the chance to establish himself as the Celtics‘ number one guy. Brown’s five-year $285.3 million deal could entice Stevens to find a willing trade partner.
OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — A brief look at the third round Saturday of the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club (all times EDT):

CHASING: Adam Scott (67) and J.J. Spaun (69) were one shot behind.
LURKING: Viktor Hovland (70) was the only other player under par, three shots behind.
AT STAKE: $4.3 million to the winner, with a 10-year exemption to the U.S. Open and a five-year exemption to the other three majors.

OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler arrived at Oakmont with his swing in a good place.
Wherever that place was, it’s gone. Temporarily, at least.
While world’s top-ranked player put together his best round of the week at the U.S. Open on Saturday by firing an even-par 70 to remain at 4 over, he knows tracking down good friend and third-round leader Sam Burns eight shots ahead might require the kind of crisp, clean golf Scheffler has struggled to produce over 54 holes.
“Am I in the position I had hoped to be after three days? Obviously not,” Scheffler said.
