Jul. 28—The Little Hawkeye Conference sent three softball teams to the state tournament and one of them won the Class 4A championship.
Junior Mack Sims batted .442 in one of the strongest conferences in the state and ranked in the top 10 in four statistical categories while leading the Cardinals in even more than that.

Another strong season for Sims netted her first team all-conference recognition recently.
The teams were released to the public after Pella won its first softball state championship on Thursday.

Jul. 28—Newton senior Skyler Milheiser did not have the minimum number of at-bats required on Bound to make the list for top batting averages in the Little Hawkeye Conference this season.
Milheiser’s season was cut short due to an injury. But his .400 batting average in 25 at-bats was the third-best in the conference.
Senior Cade Bauer led the Newton baseball team in hits and total bases and ranked in the top 10 in the league in stolen bases.

Both Cardinals were recognized on the all-conference team recently.
Jonathan Kuminga isn’t rushing into making a decision regarding his next contract, despite the Golden State Warriors potentially being stuck in limbo until he does. The former lottery pick has reportedly been drawing interest from the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls, as they eye a potential sign-and-trade to pry him away from the Bay Area.
According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, who was speaking via ESPN 1320 Sacramento, Kuminga has already held talks with the Kings front office and has been interested in the role on offer, along with the overall pitch.
