The Trail Blazers star is so ready to do something that we haven’t seen in years.
For NBA fans of a certain age, Kobe Bryant’s 81-point performance in 2006 has stood as one of the more untouchable modern-day records. But the mark is looking more and more tangible lately, and may not stand for much longer at the rate that scoring is accelerating in the NBA.
With a ridiculous 71-point outing on Sunday night, Blazers superstar Damian Lillard was the latest to make Kobe’s mark look attainable.

After a career year with the Lions, Williams would remain a valuable fantasy asset if he signed with one of these teams.
The running back position doesn’t have a ton of superstars available on the free agent market, but there are a few names of interest … including Jamaal Williams. He’s coming off a career season, posting 1,066 rushing yards, a Detroit franchise record and NFL-best 17 rushing touchdowns and a solid 225.9 fantasy points.
Williams would likely be best served staying in Detroit, where he’d continue to see a good workload playing behind the injury-prone D’Andre Swift.
One of college basketball’s unbreakable records is poised to fall this year: Pete Maravich’s 3,667 points. But Antoine Davis’ path to hoops immortality is complicated.
Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis is just 63 points shy of equaling Maravich’s all-time scoring record.
LeBron James and Donovan Mitchell were among those in awe of the Blazers star’s performance.
Damian Lillard was on a whole different level for the Trail Blazers on Sunday night, torching the Rockets for 71 points, tying Donovan Mitchell for the highest single-game tally of the NBA season.
It was an electric performance from Lillard, who was a perfect 14 of 14 from the free throw line and added 13 three-pointers en route to his 71 points.
In addition to his scoring onslaught, the 32-year-old added six rebounds and six assists, while knocking down 22 of 38 field goal attempts.

After nights like this in the NBA, many are not-so-seriously considering giving players a week off each month to make way for awesome performances. A little defense wouldn’t hurt, but you really can’t complain much when you’re getting so much excitement from the league.

The Portland star says it was the first time he was tested immediately after a game.
Damian Lillard had one of the best scoring nights in NBA history on Sunday night when he dropped 71 points against the Rockets, but the NBA appeared to be a little suspicious of the Trail Blazers star’s performance. Immediately after the game, Lillard was required to take a blood-drawn drug test.
When speaking to reporters afterward, the seven-time All-Star addressed the drug test and said it was the first time he had been tested immediately after a game. He also shared he has a bit of a phobia.
