When the NFL cancelled the Week 17 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills, one of the stipulations was that if that game could have affected AFC playoff seeding, provisions were in place.
One of those provisions was a potential neutral-site AFC Championship if either the Bills or Bengals could have theoretically obtained the #1 seed by winning that game. The Kansas City Chiefs got the #1 seed by going 14-3.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium was named as the host of a potential neutral-site conference championship game between the Bills and Chiefs.
The NFL released its official plan for a neutral-site AFC championship game in the event that the Bills and Chiefs are slated to play against each other in the title game.
Per a release from the NFL, Atlanta would host the game on Jan. 29 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 
“Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta would host a potential AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, January 29, at 6:30 p.m. ET,” the release began.
