Thursday not only marked Opening Day for the 2023 MLB season, but it was the first time in history that the pitch clock was used during a regular season game. The rule change made its long awaited debut when the Yankees hosted the Giants and the game was shortened by a significant amount. 
After New York’s 5–0 win, the length of the game was announced to be only two hours and 33 minutes. For context, the average length of a nine-inning MLB game was three hours and three minutes in 2022.

Kendrick Perkins revealed the NBA awarded him an MVP vote for the second straight season.

Alabama forward Brandon Miller told ESPN he is entering the 2023 NBA draft, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Miller is slated to be selected in the top five of this year’s draft, but per Wojnarowski, the Crimson Tide star has made a strong case to be the No. 2 selection behind projected No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama.
He was named the SEC Player of the Year after leading Alabama to a regular-season conference championship, averaging 18.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 43% from the floor.

One of several rule changes to Major League Baseball for the 2023 season is the utilization of the pitch clock.
The new rule stipulates that a pitcher has 15 seconds to begin the motion to throw a pitch with the bases empty and 20 seconds to begin the motion with runners on base. If the pitcher fails to begin his delivery prior to the timer expiring, he is charged with a ball.
Cubs pitcher Marcus Stroman made history on Thursday afternoon, becoming the first pitcher in Major League history to violate the pitch clock in a regular season game.
