Most of the NBA’s All-Star festivities have grown stale or been transformed into something flawed. But a few winners managed to emerge from the weekend.
Mercifully, the 2023 NBA All-Star break has finally come to an end. Let’s run through some winners and losers from the weekend’s festivities…
Winner: Mac McClung
McClung went from G-League player/YouTube sensation to dunk contest champion. Despite playing only 25 minutes in his NBA career. McClung’s theatrics were so refreshing he was called to the big stage Sunday night to introduce Post Malone’s pregame concert.

The Celtics star put on a show in Salt Lake City.
Jayson Tatum stole the show in Salt Lake City on Sunday night as the Celtics star turned in a record-setting, MVP performance to lift Team Giannis to a 184–175 victory over Team LeBron in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.
In a showcase of 24 of the league’s best players, Tatum set himself apart with an all-time performance, pouring in an All-Star record 55 points to go with 10 rebounds and six assists. Tatum’s absurd mark surpasses the previous record set by Anthony Davis’s 52-point effort in 2017.

The Lakers forward’s team lost 184–175 in Salt Lake City.
A rough season for the Lakers went from bad to worse Sunday night at the NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The team’s lone representative in the annual midseason showcase, forward LeBron James, exited the game at halftime. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer received an official injury designation from the league, which announced he suffered a right hand contusion.
