Oakland A’ reliever Chad Morris had quite the Wednesday. After being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas he had to wake up at 2:45 AM and jump on a plane to Baltimore. He then found himself on the bump later that evening and was credited with a win after just two innings of work, but only thanks to a rarely used official scoring rule.
Smith pitched the final two innings of Oakland’s 8-4 win over the Orioles allowing just one hit and zero runs during his appearance.

Only 14 days until the Panthers go on the clock for the first round of the 2023 NFL draft.
Until then, everybody takes their best guess as to how things play out. What do we know, though? What’s a given fact?
For starters, two quarterbacks—Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, in some order—will go off the board in the first two picks. After that, the Cardinals—should they stay at No. 3—will almost certainly take a defensive talent. Then, the Colts will think long and hard about a quarterback for themselves.
Essentially, the draft starts with the Seahawks at No. 5.
Shannon Sharpe has zero faith in Skip Bayless’ rushing abilities against an NFL defense.
Sharpe and Bayless co-host “Undisputed” on FS1, and the duo is known for trading shots on a regular basis. It makes for some great entertainment.
It also means they occasionally roast each other when presented with the chance, and that’s exactly what Bayless did during an interview with Jason and Travis Kelce.
Shannon Sharpe roasts Skip Bayless when asked if he could rush for a yard in an NFL game.
Brian Kelly wants LSU fans to believe he’s found the place he intends to call home for the rest of his career.
Kelly had a surprisingly impressive 10-4 season last year and it ended with a 63-7 win over Purdue in the Citrus Bowl. Given how hard LSU had fallen since winning the national title, Brian Kelly wasted no time turning things around.
Kelly reportedly had some serious NFL interest a few years ago when he was at Notre Dame, but he never made the jump to the pros.
Given the quick turnaround at LSU, it’s fair to wonder if the NFL might come calling.
Diar DeRozan employed a tenacious free throw defense, screaming each time the Raptors went to the line.
The long-rumored interest by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to purchase the Washington Commanders fizzled out Wednesday when the ultra-billionaire backed out of the bidding war.
First reported by Puck News, Bezos will no longer pursue purchasing the downtrodden NFL team and delivering its fan base from contested owner Dan Snyder.

Two bidding groups remain. Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devil owner Josh Harris submitted a bid for the team. Harris’ investment group includes famed Laker Magic Johnson.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered in the clutch and had 32 points to lead the Thunder past the Pelicans in Wednesday night’s No. 9 vs. No. 10 play-in game.
Well, wonder if Zion Williamson could have scored six points for the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night?
That would have been enough for his team to advance in the NBA Play-In Tournament. But Williamson did not play despite saying on Tuesday that he was “physically fine” after suffering a strained hamstring on January 2 and not playing since.
Oklahoma City Pulls Away From Pelicans
The Pelicans instead lost by five, 123-118, to Oklahoma City in front of a sparse crowd at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans to end their season as Williamson watched in street clothes.
Former LSU men’s basketball player Wayne Sims passed away on Wednesday, according to a statement from the Tigers’ athletic department — Sims was 54. No cause of death has been determined.
Sims, who played in Baton Rouge under coach Dale Brown from 1987 to 1991, built an understated legacy in Baton Rogue. The 6-foot-7, 247-lb. Tiger was a bruising big man whose contributions on the scoring front and on the glass proved vital to the team’s four consecutive NCAA appearances in the tournament.
Giants reliever Taylor Rogers had an outing to forget against the Dodgers on Wednesday night. The righthander came on to pitch the start of the sixth inning for San Francisco, but proceeded to walk four consecutive batters without recording an out before getting pulled by manager Gabe Kapler.
After the difficult showing on the hill, Rogers could be seen throwing his glove into a trash can in the dugout.
The 32-year-old walked Trayce Thompson to start the inning, before giving free passes to Chris Taylor and Mookie Betts.
