The Houston Texans reportedly hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach.

Ryans has been the presumed favorite for the job, especially over the past week, and now that the 49ers season is over the Texans made it official.
Ryans is a former Texans draft pick — #33 overall, 2006 — who won Rookie of the Year for the team in ’06-07. He also became a First Team All-Pro in Houston and made two Pro Bowls.

Two former Georgia athletes made several important life decisions in an extraordinarily short time frame recently.
Ryland Goede was, until recently, a tight end for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Goede was a four-star recruit out of high school several years ago, seeing mostly reserve action for the Bulldogs.
Despite his fairly impressive recruiting ranking, he never caught a pass during his time in Athens. So it’s not surprising that he’d be announcing a transfer to Mississippi State.
But though Goede was never successful on the field, he apparently found much more success off the field.

Sean Payton is the Denver Broncos choice to be their next head coach. While the sides have a basic understanding on a contract, the negotiations on that continue, a source told OutKick on Tuesday.
There are still final details to iron out on the deal but it is believed Payton will be one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL, if not the highest, the source said.
This has been two-pronged negotiation for the Broncos.

Ryans is now the head coach of the team he once played for
The Houston Texans have their next head coach, and it is a familiar face.
DeMeco Ryans, most recently the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, will be the next head coach of the Texans. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ryans and the team reached agreement on a six-year deal.
The agreement reunited Ryans with the team he once played for. Ryans was drafted by the Texans in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, the 33rd player selected overall.

With speculation swirling over Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s next move, a familiar name from his recent past is resurfacing.
That would be Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who served as Rodgers’s offensive coordinator for three seasons in Green Bay. It was under Hackett’s tutelage that Rodgers rejuvenated his career, winning MVP awards in 2020 and ’21.
Rodgers had nothing but praise for his former offensive coordinator while speaking on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday.
