A current teammate of Blaire Fleming, a trans-identifying male on the undefeated San Jose State women’s volleyball team, has joined more than a dozen other female athletes in suing the NCAA for Title IX violations.
The class-action lawsuit, originally filed in March, states that the NCAA has knowingly violated Title IX, the federal statute that guarantees equal opportunity for men and women in college education and in sports.

It’s WNBA playoff game day (Part 2) and we have two teams on the brink of elimination — and two who are just a win away from advancing to the semi-finals. Such is the nature of the best-of-three first round series — after just one playoff loss, both the Seattle Storm and Atlanta Dream find themselves in do-or-die situations heading into their respective Game 2s.
The Seattle Storm will play the Las Vegas Aces for game 2 of the WNBA playoffs on Tuesday night.
There was a moment on Sunday afternoon when Sam Darnold was on the turf in Minnesota with a knee injury and uncertainty was in the air. This season, so surprisingly promising, seemed at risk for the Vikings.
Fast-forward to Monday when tests revealed Darnold is merely nursing a bruised knee and will be fine without missing playing time. So a big relief for the Twin Cities.
And think about that: The quarterback brought in to be a backup and, at best, maybe bridge the gap between today and J.J. McCarthy tomorrow had a town and the entire franchise on edge over test results.
