The Suns officially introduced Frank Vogel as the team’s new coach this week, replacing Monty Williams and adding a former NBA champion to a team ready to win now. Phoenix enters its first offseason with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker together, looking to make a return to the NBA Finals next year as one of the favorites.
Vogel spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix about his new job, and the veteran coach understands the weight of the situation, but he is confident the roster should work well together.
Red Sox ace Chris Sale will face another extended absence from action after receiving an unfortunate update on his health exactly one week after landing on the 15-day injured list.
Boston announced Friday that Sale, 34, has been transferred to the 60-day injured list as he continues to deal with left shoulder inflammation. The move will sideline the veteran lefty for at least the next two months, setting him up for a possible return some time in August.
Friday’s news marks the latest setback for the oft-injured Sale, who last appeared on the mound against the Reds on June 1.
When Frank Vogel began interviewing for open head coaching positions this spring, he found an unusual job market. Typically teams looking for a new coach are coming off poor seasons or are in, or about to be in, the early stage of a rebuild. This cycle, instead, was headlined by contenders who expected to win right away. That includes the Suns, who this week hired Vogel to a multiyear deal to take over a championship contender.
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel joined the Pardon My Take podcast with Barstool Sports on Friday to discuss a myriad of topics related to his team and the NFL at large.
The interview took a turn when Dan “Big Cat” Katz asked McDaniel about Miami’s playoff loss to the Bills and whether or not McDaniel was vaping on the sideline. The video, which showed McDaniel’s hands near his face and what could have been smoke (or his breath) emerging in the cold weather, went viral after the Dolphins’ loss to the Bills.
The standards for the New York Mets are apparently a lot lower than most fans would expect.
Essentially, the Mets had one of the worst possible series an Major League Baseball team can have over the past few days.
With the team already struggling to live up to lofty expectations set by an exorbitant payroll, they went to Atlanta to take on the rival Braves in an important series.
And they got swept in unbelievably demoralizing fashion.
Thursday’s game in particular was devastating.

Pérez failed to advance out of Q1 in the Monaco Grand Prix, starting at the back of the field and settling for a 16th-place finish.
Then a week ago in Barcelona, Pérez again struggled in qualifying.
Mets star first baseman Pete Alonso is hitting the injured list after being hit on the wrist by a pitch on Wednesday during the team’s game against the Braves, the team announced Friday afternoon.
New York revealed that Alonso, 28, has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and a sprain on his left wrist. The team added that the specific injury typically requires approximately three-to-four weeks of recovery.
The news comes amid a potential career season for Alonso, as well as a brutal stretch for his team.
