COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — One more overtime, and Sarah Ashlee Barker might have set the single-game scoring record for the women’s NCAA Tournament.
As it was, she left a mark on March Madness like few players have.
Barker scored 45 points for fifth-seeded Alabama in a 111-108 double-overtime loss to fourth-seeded Maryland on Monday. Even after multiple key teammates fouled out, she kept the Crimson Tide in the game. Her performance included one of the great clutch displays in tournament history, when she made three straight free throws with 0.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek exited with an apparent lower body injury early in the first period of the Red Wings’ game against Utah Hockey Club on Monday night.
Utah forward Dylan Guenther collided with Mrazek in the net on the tail end of a breakaway shot attempt 1:38 into the game. The contact sent Mrazek’s stick flying across the ice. Mrazek limped off the ice and headed straight to the locker room. Alex Lyon replaced him in the net.
Mrazek is 12-21-2 in his 35 previous starts this season. He has a 3.35 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Jakob Poeltl had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and the Toronto Raptors beat the Washington Wizards 112-104 on Monday night to stop a four-game slide.
Immanuel Quickley had 21 points and seven assists for Toronto. Scottie Barnes finished with 13 points, 10 boards and eight assists.
Washington lost its fifth consecutive game. Jordan Poole scored 23 points for the Wizards, and AJ Johnson had 17. Bob Carrington finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
The Wizards lost Keyonte George after the guard sprained his left ankle early in the game.

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez, 42, was sentenced to five years in prison in San Jose, Calif., on Monday for attempted murder and other charges stemming from an incident in 2022. 
Velasquez had targeted Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting the fighter’s son while the child was at a daycare operated by Goularte’s mother.  In a high-speed chase, Velasquez pursued and fired at a vehicle carrying both Goularte and his stepfather. 
Velasquez used his .40-caliber handgun, striking Goularte’s stepfather, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the “New Jersey Americans”.

Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas hired Xavier’s Sean Miller to take over the Longhorns basketball program on Monday, turning to the coach who had just knocked them out of the NCAA Tournament a few days earlier in an attempt to spark a program that struggled in its first season in the Southeastern Conference.
The announcement comes a day after Texas fired Rodney Terry, and less than a week after Miller and Xavier knocked the Longhorns out of March Madness in a First Four game. Xavier was beaten in the next round by Illinois.
Texas planned an introductory news conference with Miller on Tuesday.

Cam Ward appeared to yell something toward the Tennessee Titans brass during his pro day workout on Monday.
The Miami quarterback revealed what he said during a post-session interview with NFL Network.
“I said, ‘I’m solidifying it today,’” Ward said with a smile, referencing his potential status as the No. 1 overall pick. “I made sure they heard me.”
The Titans own the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL draft and Ward is the odds on favorite to be the top selection.
