For his first three years of high school, it seemed Matt Webster could pin anyone.
Unfortunately, that included himself a few times.
Until his senior year at Jefferson, it looked as if Webster’s career might be best remembered for the matches he did not win. The ones where he made critical mistakes at the most pivotal of times.
However, Webster set out to prove to everyone what kind of wrestler he is.
In the 2025-26 season, he went 46-9 and finished third in the recent Division II 215-pound weight class of the Ohio High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Tournament n Columbus.

When Edgewood senior catcher Alex Sperduto started playing travel baseball at age 13, he made it his goal to play in college and to continue to play as long as he can.
That dream was almost put on hold after suffering an injury in the second half of his junior year.
Sperduto dislocated his kneecap and fractured his femur bone while warming up for the second game of a doubleheader at Conneaut.

Geneva wrestling coach Ron Cerjan earned the 2025-26 Ashtabula County Wrestling Coach of the Year honor.
But, really, the work for Cerjan started several years ago as he and a others worked diligently to get the Eagles mat program back to when he was on the mat for Geneva.
Cerjan wrestled for the Eagles in the late 1980s for coach Tom Koehler. Back then, Geneva had full varsity lineup, JV lineup and freshman teams.
Later, Dwight Fritz came along and continued the success, making regular trips to Columbus for the state tournament.

CINCINNATI — Connelly Early wasn’t supposed to be here.
Throughout spring training, it seemed a given that, with the three starting pitchers the Red Sox acquired, along with some returning veterans, Early would begin the year at Triple A Worcester to further his development.
But then, newcomer Johan Oviedo stumbled and Ranger Suárez didn’t get the workload he was expecting in the WBC, and the Sox shifted gears. Early was a surprising addition to the rotation late in camp. He’ll make his 2026 debut Sunday in the series finale at Great American Ball Park against the Cincinnati Reds.

The second practice session of IndyCar’s weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama got cut short on Saturday morning after a downright terrifying pair of crashes for Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin and Andretti Global’s Will Power.
The New Zealander came into the weekend sitting at P5 in the standings, 41 points behind championship leader Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham is making the most of her final weeks of the offseason.
How great is an early spring Saturday? You wake up, you head outside for a breath of fresh air, then you quickly go back inside to drink coffee and watch TV.
But that moment of crisp, clean oxygen is pretty great.
But none of our weekends can compete with Cunningham, who posted some bikini shots from some tropical locale to her Instagram.
“Workouts done by 8 am straight to bikinis, coconut oil, and UV 11 before noon? YEP🌴 YES🥥 YASSSS☀️”
Yep, Yes, YASSSS indeed.

Gator Nichols and Stehl Bates dominated many statistical categories on teams that were largely unblemished in 2025-26.
That was reflected in the All-Muskingum Valley League squads released by its coaches.
Nichols, recently named Division IV Player of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association for the second straight season, repeated as Small School Player of the Year in the league. Bates, a second-team All-Ohioan in Division IV, was the Big School Player of the Year.
Coaches of the Year, by virtues of their league titles, were John Glenn’s Eric Sheck and Maysville’s Dave Brown.
