Ross Chastain is starting to make some headway after a poor start to the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. Chastain currently sits 22nd in the standings with a 40-point deficit to the Chase bubble. This comes after the Trackhouse Racing driver had two straight top-8 finishes.
Chastain struggled with four straIght finishes of 26th place or worse before Michigan International Speedway, and only has one top-5 and four top-10 finishes in 2026. The driver of the No. 1 car is in a much better spot than he was one month ago, with only nine races remaining in the regular season.

For the average football player, celebrating a goal is the ultimate goal. It is the culmination of all the hard work put in training during the week, and the end of everything they have been working for during the match.
Michael Olise is different.
The San Jose Sharks drafted Brady Knowling at No. 127 overall in the fourth round of the NHL Draft on Saturday.
The 6-foot-5 left-handed goaltender wants to be known for his skating ability, not just his size.
“I want my name to be a part of a sentence where it’s like, ‘Wow, his skating is really good for his size,’” Knowling said. “Because a lot of these bigger goalies are stereotypically not as good as skaters as everyone else, and it’s like, yeah, I’m 6-foot-5 but I want to be able to be an unbelievable skater.
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has backed teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to enjoy a bright international future but believes the youngster should take inspiration from Sachin Tendulkar’s discipline, focus and mental strength as he prepares for the biggest stage.
Sooryavanshi, 15, is on the verge of creating history during India’s ongoing T20I series against Ireland.
Let’s just say the San Jose Sharks did something big with their seventh-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
With the 201st overall pick, San Jose selected defenseman Alexander Karmanov out of Moldova. At 7-foot-1, he is the tallest drafted player in the history of the NHL. If he plays a single NHL game, he will become the league’s tallest ever player, surpassing the 6-foot-9 triumvirate of Zdeno Chara, Matt Rempe and Viktor Svedberg.
Don’t worry, there’s video.
The 18-year-old Karmanov also weighs in 280 pounds, which would make him one of the heaviest NHL players ever.

The World Cup field has slimmed down markedly in recent days, with 16 sides exiting stage left upon the conclusion of the group stage.
For the 32 teams that remain, it’s hard not to dream of hoisting the World Cup trophy over one’s head. Soccer is filled with haves and have-nots, to be sure.

The United States national team is into the knockout round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, meaning the first task has been completed.
Led by Mauricio Pochettino, the USMNT topped Group D by defeating Paraguay and Australia, before a rotated squad lost to Turkey on a last-second goal in a meaningless group-stage finale.
Thirty one days can whisk by in a flash. Just ask Steve Clarke.
That’s the time-scale between signing a new four-year deal to his abrupt resignation as Scotland head coach.
Following Wednesday’s defeat to Brazil in Miami, Scotland’s World Cup exit appeared to drag on just as much as their 28-year wait to return to the biggest stage of them all.
That fate was sealed just before the clock ticked into Sunday in Scotland as Croatia defeated Ghana 2-1.
ARLINGTON, TX — After weeks of matches, of teams striving to get into the next round and plenty of dramatic moments, the round of 32 is set. From here on out, every World Cup match is win or go home.
All three host countries, the United States, Mexico and Canada moved through – with Mexico perhaps cursing its luck at seemingly drawing the most difficult opponent of the trio, playing Ecuador in Mexico City on June 30.
Several tournament favorites have been drawn into the same quadrant, with France and Germany on a collision course in the round of 16.
The dream of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo meeting for the first and only time in the World Cup is (likely) dead.
Portugal’s 0-0 draw with Colombia on Saturday night relegated it to second in Group K and on the opposite side of the knockout round bracket from Argentina. Had Portugal won Group K, Argentina and Portugal would have been on a collision course to meet in the quarterfinals on July 11.
Now, the only way that the 39-year-old Messi and the 41-year-old Ronaldo can meet in the World Cup is if both teams make the final.
