Former NFL player Sergio Brown is missing following the death of his mother over the weekend.
The Maywood Police Department reported that the body of Brown’s mother, Myrtle Brown, was found in a creek on Saturday nearby her home in the suburbs of Chicago.
Her body was discovered after authorities were alerted by relatives that they’d been unable to contact her or her son, said the department, via CNN.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that she died as a result of injuries related to an assault. The manner of her death was ruled as a homicide.

Kenny Pickett givers us the latest glimpse at just how hard it is to play quarterback
Every NFL Sunday — or college football Saturday, or high school Friday night for that matter — you can find moments to support this simple proposition.
Playing quarterback is the toughest job in sports.
We have said this before but it bears repeating: In the span of roughly three seconds, a quarterback has to decipher a defense, make the right decision with the football, and then make an accurate throw, all while some of the best athletes on the field try and put them in the hospital.

This week’s waiver wire focus is primarily on trying to replace Browns All-Pro running back Nick Chubb, who suffered a nasty knee injury on Monday Night and is likely done for the year and Giants running back Saquon Barkley who is expected to miss multiple weeks with an ankle injury. Chubb is one of the league’s best runners and a favorite among the fantasy football community thanks to his stellar production year in and year out.

Browns running back Nick Chubb sustained a significant knee injury during Monday Night Football after attempting a rush on first-and-goal in the second quarter against the Steelers.
Chubb was carted to the locker room and quickly ruled out for the game as a result of the injury, which the ABC broadcast opted against showing viewers due to its graphic nature.
While the extent of the injury was not immediately clear, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it was his left knee, the same knee which Chubb dislocated and tore his MCL, PCL, and LCL in 2015.

ESPN was hoping for fireworks with two Monday Night Football games during Week 2 of the NFL season. Curiously, the network aired two games nearly simultaneously. Unfortunately, the football in the Carolina Panthers vs. New Orleans Saints game was … sloppy. But Saints wide receiver Chris Olave posted an incredible highlight-reel catch.
Neither the Saints nor the Panthers managed to reach the end zone during the first half of a defensive battle. New Orleans took a 6-3 lead into the break thanks to out-field-goaling (I just made that term up) the Panthers 2-1. Very riveting stuff.

Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb left Monday night’s game against the Steelers after suffering an ugly knee injury in the second quarter. The injury was so bad that ESPN wouldn’t show replays of it.
Joe Buck, who is calling the game with Troy Aikman, shared how fans in Pittsburgh chanted Chubb’s name as he was put on to the cart and taken off the field. That was a pretty classy move by the crowd at Acrisure Stadium.

WARNING: Graphic injury footage included
Star Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb went down with a serious leg injury in the second quarter of Monday night’s primetime game.
Unable to walk, Chubb was carted back to the locker room.

Jared Goff’s first interception in 315 days happened midway through the fourth quarter of a Week 2 home game against the Seahawks. Until that moment on Sunday, his pick-less-in-Detroit streak dated back to Nov. 6, 2022, through two months of last season and one game of this one, despite nearly 400 pass attempts. He had a shot at history, even.
Context mattered at that moment. Always does, especially in the NFL. The Lions were using their third running back on this particular play and had been shuffling tackles around to deal with injuries that cropped up against Seattle.
