The Bears acquired Commanders pass rusher Montez Sweat on Tuesday ahead of the 2023 NFL trade deadline in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The move bolsters the defensive front for Chicago, as the 27-year-old Sweat will provide instant impact to one of the worst pass rushes in the league.
However, the Bears, sitting at 2-6 on the season, appear to be on the verge of yet another season without a trip to the playoffs. Sweat, meanwhile, will be a free agent following the season.

The Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy led virtual golf league TGL will officially begin on Jan. 9, 2024. And with the new year fast approaching, the new venture has announced the format and rules ahead of the launch.
Big-picture wise, this is going to be professional golfers hitting balls into a giant screen, but the nuts and bolts of what TGL will entail actually sounds entertaining.

Bulls guard Zach Lavine is one of two NBA stars the 76ers are eyeing to pair with reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey after the franchise traded James Harden, according to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix.

Kirk Cousins is having a pretty lousy week, but he still took the time to help some young Vikings fans make lifelong memories on Monday night.
Cousins tore his Achilles tendon in Sunday’s win over the Packers and will miss the rest of the season. But just 24 hours after the devastating injury, Cousins was back at the team facility for an event with the Vikings Kids Club, signing autographs for some young fans while using a scooter to get around.
Montez Sweat is a Chicago Bear.
The defensive end was traded from the Washington Commanders to the Bears Tuesday morning, only four hours from the NFL trade deadline, a source told OutKick.
The Bears are sending the Commanders a second-round pick in the 2024 draft, per multiple reports. And with the way the Bears’ season is going, the pick promises to be a top 5-10 pick in that second round.
But that’s not what intrigues here.
This is:
The idea that the Commanders were going to be sellers is not surprising. OutKick reported on it Monday.

In an amusing X post, the recently retired St. Louis Cardinals pitcher gave a behind-the-scenes look into how a Major Leaguer announces he’s done with the sport that he spent over 20 years playing day in and day out.
“Retired? Absolutely, for all the best reasons,” the World Series pitcher tweeted along with a screengrab of his “MLB – Notice of Disposition” filed paperwork.
“This letter serves as my official notification to the ST.
All eyes will be on Victor Wembanyama when the Spurs and Suns meet for the first of four times this season on Halloween night.
The heralded rookie has already put together quite the highlight reel during his first week in the league and he played a key role in San Antonio’s lone win over the weekend. Phoenix has been shorthanded to start the season as Devin Booker (foot) and Bradley Beal (back) have combined to play in one of the team’s three games so far. Booker is a game-time decision and Beal is out yet again.
What an original costume!
Halloween 2023 was destined to be littered with Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift costumes by the least-creative couple you know who wants to be cute without realizing they picked something so tired.
So here’s Mitt and Ann Romney dressed like Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

This is how someone holds a football when they’ve never held a football in their life before.
A year ago, Louisville posted its worst winning percentage in men’s basketball since a 2-14 campaign in 1941. It seemed that the 4-28 Cardinals had nowhere to go but up in 2024.
That illusion was shattered on Monday when Louisville played Division II Kentucky Wesleyan in an exhibition—and lost 71-68.
The loss itself has alarm bells going off throughout Jefferson County—a similar defeat, to D-II Lenoir-Rhyne, anticipated the Cardinals’ free fall last year—but coach Kenny Payne’s postgame comments raised even more questions.
Bettors witnessed favorites dominating the slate with a 13-3 straight-up (SU) mark, while posting a lucrative 9-5-2 against the spread (ATS) record in Week 8 of the NFL.
Chiefs fans were upset that Taylor Swift did not attend the game in Denver. In games with Swift in attendance, Kansas City is 4-0, outscoring opponents 114-55.
The Chiefs were 7-point road favorites but saw their six-game winning streak snapped and in the process Patrick Mahomes suffered his first loss (12-1) against the Broncos.
