Notre Dame’s Tommy Rees will be leaving South Bend to become Nick Saban’s new offensive coordinator at Alabama, sources tell Sports Illustrated‘s Ross Dellenger.
News of the Crimson Tide targeting Rees was first reported by ESPN’s Chris Low on Thursday afternoon. Rees replaces Bill O’Brien, who became the offensive coordinator for the Patriots last week.

Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner is having his fair share of fun as the team’s rumored interest in trading for Aaron Rodgers continues to swirl.
Rodgers remained mum on his future with the Packers when their season came to an end last month, but it now looks more and more likely that Green Bay may move on from their star quarterback if he opts to continue playing.

The star guard expects to be moved ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline after talks over an extension broke down in recent days.
Kyrie Irving’s latest issues with Nets management has reportedly been revealed on the heels of the star guard’s bombshell request to be traded from the team prior to next week’s trade deadline.
Shortly after breaking the news of Irving’s request, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the recently-named All-Star starter took issue with the team including stipulations in a potential contract extension leading to a breakdown of talks in recent days.

Unlike its counterparts in the NFL, there is a consistent lack of transparency around college football hires from the institutions doing the hiring.
If you follow NFL coaching searches, you’ll notice a simple level of transparency that seems radical if you’re a college football fan.

That is an NFL team announcing it interviewed a coaching candidate (in this case, one it ended up hiring). You didn’t see anything like that from Nebraska’s Twitter account during the search that saw Matt Rhule landing the job.

Bill Simmons has officially declared Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro as the “best American white guy” in all of the NBA.
While there isn’t a plethora of white Americans in the league, Simmons very clearly enjoys Herro’s game, which is why he has awarded him with his second straight Mokeski Award.
“Cruising to his second straight Mokeski Award for our best American White Guy. (He’s only eight trophies away from Larry Legend.) I love that Herro rebounds—almost six a game this season. Might have a 25-7-5 / 45-40-85% season in him some day.”
“He’s only 23.

The Houston Astros’ 2017 World Series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers has since been marred by cheating revelations.
Famously, the Astros used an elaborate system of electronic sign stealing and trash can banging. That process helped propel some of their hitters to the best season of their career.
Carlos Correa, for example, had his highest offensive output in 2017. That year was 17% better than his overall career offensive line.
Generally, the players and officials involved have been viewed negatively in the years since the story was revealed.

Lane Kiffin’s son, Knox, is still quite a few years away from making a college decision. That isn’t stopping him from putting the world on notice.
With the Class of 2023 having signed their National Letters of Intent earlier this week, Kiffin is turning focus toward his own home in the future. Knox, a Class of 2028 recruit, dropped his way-too-early top-five on Thursday night and included his father’s program.
While pretty much everything is set to change over the next five years, Knox Kiffin has his sights set on four* SEC programs and one Pac-12 school.
