Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has returned to practice for the first time since straining his calf in late July, multiple reporters confirmed. Burrow was seen walking to the field with pads and a helmet ahead of Cincinnati’s practice session on Wednesday.
Burrow has been sidelined since he was carted off the field with a strained calf during practice in July. Though the Bengals starter is expected to be ready for Week 1, he missed all three of Cincinnati’s preseason games this summer.

The Chicago Bears are filling out their practice squad, and they’ve made another addition, as they’ll reportedly sign Bill Murray to a contract.

Jim Irsay, 64, may be off his rocker. At least that’s what sane NFL fans think today as news starts to trickle out regarding the Jonathan Taylor-Miami Dolphins trade talks.
For starters, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald — along with several others — reported that the old-timey Colts’ owner shot for the MOON when he put a price tag on Taylor — his star running back.
Oh, you want my 24-year-old player who plays a diminished position but is going to demand a massive contract extension next year? Fine.

Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons’s first two seasons have gone about as well as Dallas could’ve hoped.
In 2021, he was Defensive Rookie of the Year, an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler. In 2022, he was an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler once again.
However, one accolade has eluded the Penn State product. Parsons has been runner-up in the AP Defensive Player of the Year voting twice, but has yet to win the award. Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt won it in ’21 and 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa won in ’22.

ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith ripped Jimmy Garoppolo during Wednesday’s episode of First Take for his latest comments regarding his former team, the 49ers. During an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg, Garoppolo was asked about San Francisco trading Trey Lance to the Cowboys. Lance was drafted by San Francisco to replace Garoppolo which eventually led to him leaving the team to join the Raiders. 
Garoppolo called it a “weird situation” and added there have “been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco.

As the dispute between Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and his team continues over his contract situation, Indianapolis reportedly spoke with the Dolphins and Packers about potential trades centered around its young star ball carrier.
Reports emerged earlier this week indicating that Colts general manager Chris Ballard plans to hold on to Taylor for now, as he didn’t feel Indianapolis was receiving fair value in trade proposals for the franchise running back. The Colts had a self-imposed 4 p.m.

Though MLB is experimenting with electronic strike zones (aka “robo umps”) in the minor leagues, balls and strikes are still called by human beings at the big league level. And while major league umpires are pretty good on the whole, there’s always going to be missed calls. Unless an umpire is having a really bad day, you’ll probably see a bad call, shake your head and move on. But seeing a whole bunch of lousy calls back-to-back is a different story.

Woodland took to social media Wednesday to let golf fans know of a recent serious health development that is going to require surgery.
Former U.S. Open winner Gary Woodland revealed some sad news after the PGA Tour season ended. He announced that he will undergo surgery on Sept. 18 for a brain lesion.
Woodland wrote a post that he shared on all his social media platforms about his health.
“I wanted to share a recent health development with you,” Woodland wrote.

The Patriots are re-signing Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham to their practice squad after the quarterbacks cleared waivers on Wednesday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports.
New England waived both Zappe and Cunningham on Tuesday, leaving them with Mac Jones as the lone quarterback on the active roster. However, no other team put in a claim for either quarterback, allowing the Patriots to bring them back on the practice squad. Either Zappe or Cunningham will likely serve as Jones’s backup once the season begins.
