I was in attendance for Tua Tagovailoa’s monster outing against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
Two things quickly came to mind as the 2020 No. 5 pick approached 500 passing yards: Former Steelers defensive back and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark made the right call apologizing to Tagovailoa, and the Chargers are going to have another long season defensively.
I’ll go more in depth on the Chargers’ poor defense for one of my notes. Also, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford caught my attention.

The Cowboys wasted virtually no time in earning a statement win this season with their Week 1 blowout victory over the Giants on Sunday night.
Dallas dominated defensively en route to a 40-0 triumph, recording three takeaways, seven sacks and a pick-six while limiting New York to 171 yards of total offense.
Micah Parsons proved to once again be one of the key facilitators of chaos, and as The Athletic’s Jon Machota detailed, the standout linebacker put everyone on notice after the game with a mic-drop proclamation.

Be honest — did you remember there was a NASCAR race on yesterday? It’s OK, this is a safe space. I won’t judge you one bit, mainly because I forgot, too.
I mean, come on. Scott Hanson or Rick Allen? (The fact that you don’t know who the second guy is answers that question).
Chase Elliott or Tua Tagovailoa? Admittedly, that one is a little tougher for me because I’m a Chase homer, but nobody will ever pull rank on the NFL’s 2023 MVP.
Chase, by the way, has begged NASCAR to stop competing with the NFL for years now.

Undertaker Ref is ready for RefferMania.
NFL refs get so much grief that it’s nice to acknowledge when they do something awesome — especially when it’s also hilarious. Not a great deal of people tuned in to watch Cardinals vs. Commanders outside of those fanbases (because why the heck would they?), meaning they missed this gem.

This is where years of preparation pays off. It’s the little things that turned this ho-hum moment into an iconic meme.

Did Michigan State wait until a story broke about Mel Tucker being investigated for sexual harassment to indefinitely suspend him? Maybe, which shouldn’t be the main takeaway from the ongoing Title IX investigation, but it’s certainly a glaring part of it.
An independent attorney started working on the complaint when it was filed in December, then recently turned over to the school on July 25th. During this time period, one would think university officials knew something about the allegations from Brenda Tracy.

Mac Jones and the New England Patriots kicked off their 2023 season by losing at home to the Philadelphia Eagles in a game that they very easily could have won if not for a late turnover.
Speaking of turnovers, Jones handed the Eagles their first touchdown of the season in the opening quarter when he threw an interception to Darius Slay, who took it back 70 yards to the house for six points.
It looked like Jones could have made a play on Slay during his long return but instead of going all out, the Patriots QB did, well, this:

The Giants endured a catastrophic start to the season on Sunday Night Football with a 40–0 loss to the Cowboys in front of a national audience. And one poor Giants fan isn’t likely to forget the carnage anytime soon.
The fan in question was seen in the MetLife Stadium crowd at the end of the game looking absolutely defeated, and he capitalized on the moment by giving an Emmy-winning deadpan to NBC’s camera. You’d probably look the same after watching your favorite team get blown out in the rain for three-plus hours.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick addressed Matt Corral’s absence from the team Monday morning.
Corral’s status with the team took an abrupt turn not long after signing with the franchise when he was placed on the exempt list. It was originally reported he was cut.
Information then came out Corral wasn’t even with the team, and nobody seemed to know why or what was going on.
Matt Corral appears to have stepped away from the Patriots shortly after signing with the team.

A huge day for Tua Tagovailoa has the Dolphins looking like contenders in the AFC
The Miami Dolphins sent a message on Sunday.
Not just to the rest of the AFC East, but perhaps the entire conference, and the NFL at large.
They are going to be a dangerous football team this season.
The Dolphins went to the West Coast and knocked off the Los Angeles Chargers in dramatic fashion 36-34, getting a late minute touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill to take the lead.
