The Angels are floundering, and now they might be without their two-way star for a while
Shohei Ohtani had one heck of a first inning on Wednesday against Cincinnati Reds.
But it may have come at a cost for the Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani left Wednesday’s game early with what the team is calling arm fatigue.
The Angels were hosting the Cincinnati Reds in what was Ohtani’s first start in about two weeks. After a meeting on the mound he suddenly exited the game in just the second inning.

Just before Ohtani walked off the mound, the Angels broadcast team was discussing how his velocity was noticeably down.
At the time of the trade, the 49ers’ decision to move up nine spots in the 2021 NFL draft to select North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance was viewed by many throughout the game as bold, if not puzzling. Just over two years later, the move is looking increasingly like a disaster.
San Francisco’s reported decision to name Sam Darnold its backup quarterback drew plenty of reactions from across the football world, most of them critical of how the team’s gamble on Lance has failed to pay off.
The 2023-24 NFL season kick-off is almost here! OutKick is unveiling its team-by-team preview series. Over the past two weeks, we covered the AFC West and NFC West and the AFC North and NFC North. This week, we’re tackling the two South divisions, continuing with last year’s second-place finisher in the AFC South, the Tennessee Titans.

Following back-to-back AFC South division titles, the Tennessee Titans missed the playoffs last season.
Summer in Indiana usually means sycamore trees, auto racing and John Mellencamp on the radio.
This summer in the Hoosier State, however, has been all about two newsmakers: Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and team owner Jim Irsay.
Taylor’s desire to be paid in accordance with his status as one of the best running backs in the NFL has rankled Irsay and led to a protracted holdout. The messy saga has included public squabbling between Irsay and Taylor’s agent, mysterious reports of back pain disputed by Taylor, and a trade request.
Teams better hurry up if they want to trade for Jonathan Taylor.
Making his first pitching start in two weeks, Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani was removed from the mound in the top of the second inning after throwing just 26 pitches. He had shown diminished velocity through the first five batters he faced, and left after a discussion with the team trainer.
Ohtani was replaced on the mound by Tyler Anderson. No reason for his removal was announced by the team.
Ohtani had his previous start skipped, with the team citing arm fatigue.
Just under two and a half years ago, the 49ers made a trade that appeared to set themselves up for the future. San Francisco shipped three draft picks to the Dolphins for the rights to draft quarterback Trey Lance, a development the team successfully kept close to the vest for much of the 2021 draft cycle.
Strange things have happened between then and now, however. First, Lance hurt his ankle in the second game of the 2022 season. Then, rookie seventh-round pick Brock Purdy emerged as a solid quarterback—solid enough, in fact, to lead the 49ers to the NFC championship game.
Sage Steele settled her lawsuit with ESPN and parent company Disney last Tuesday. She spoke about the disparate treatment she faced compared to her more liberal colleagues later in the week:
“There were different rules for me than everyone else,” Steele said on the “Megyn Kelly Show.”
“If we are allowing my peers to go on social media, much less on our own airwaves, saying things … then I should be allowed on my personal time to give my opinion on my experiences personally, without telling others what to do,” added Steele.

The NFL season is 18 days away and there are notable stars — Nick Bosa, Chris Jones, Josh Jacobs and Christian Wilkins — still so unsatisfied about their current contract situations that they’re either holding out of training camp or have reported to camp but are refusing to work in drills as part of a so-called “hold in.”
And while everyone is kinda, sorta trying to put a positive spin on these delicate money situations, the truth is a couple of these players are currently comfortable raising the stakes on their unhappiness by missing games this year if necessary.
