The White Sox’s decision to fire executives Ken Williams and Rick Hahn on Tuesday was perfectly reasonable. It was also deeply, almost incomprehensibly shocking.
If those two statements seem at odds with one another, well, these are the White Sox. There’s not always consistent logic to be found. The struggling team has been vexed by a variety of problems this year—underperforming players, frustrating stories out of the clubhouse, poor decisions from above. It only made sense to make a statement by getting rid of the men in charge.

Everyone wants to draft a sleeper. Sure, it’s fun to pick a slam-dunk player in the first round, but there’s nothing like the thrill of finding a late-round, diamond in the rough who emerges as a contributor and perhaps even a league-winner.
My colleagues and I have planted our flags on sleepers at different positions throughout the summer, but with draft season in full swing I wanted to check back in with two more wide receivers and one receiver room at large that fit the sleeper archetype.
Michael Jordan is the latest big name to weigh in on who the greatest point guard ever is, and his take is sure to get the basketball world talking.
The debate began when Stephen Curry proclaimed himself the best point guard in NBA history in a podcast appearance with Gilbert Arenas earlier this week. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith backed Curry over Magic Johnson in a close decision. But on First Take Wednesday morning, Smith revealed that Michael Jordan had texted him a take on the matter.
The Mets trading aging pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander to the Rangers and Astros, respectively, at the trade deadline was one thing.
New York dealing squarely-in-his-prime first baseman Pete Alonso, however, would be quite another.
Yet according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, an Alonso trade to the Brewers was explored by the Mets in the run-up to the deadline on Aug. 1.
“Opinions differ on how close a deal was to fruition,” Rosenthal wrote Tuesday. “One thing is clear: Alonso’s future with the Mets remains a major question.
Baker Mayfield started a trend. Now we finish it.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that Baker Mayfield would be their starting QB on Tuesday, and because it’s the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it of course came with some shenanigans.

Time to Bake.
Sure.
This looks like the cover of a bad early 2000’s album that people buy because the cover is weird, not because any of the songs on it are actually any good.

Australian Geoff Ogilvy, who won the 2006 U.S. Open, made a pretty remarkable claim about Justin Thomas’ Ryder Cup hopes.
Whether Justin Thomas should make the U.S. Ryder Cup team next month has been a hot topic among golf media, fans, and players alike.
He has a fantastic match-play record, but his inconsistent play in 2023 led to three missed cuts at major championships, a winless season, and a no-show at the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Yet, Geoff Ogilvy, who won the 2006 U.S.
USC quarterback Caleb Williams did just about everything one could ask of a signal caller in his first year with the Trojans.
After following coach Lincoln Riley from Norman, Okla. to Los Angeles last offseason, Williams led the Trojans to an 11–3 record and an appearance in the Pac-12 title game. He also threw for 4,537 yards and 42 touchdowns, while adding 10 more scores on the ground en route to capturing the Heisman Trophy.
At Florida, Tim Tebow’s legacy is unmatched.
The former Gators quarterback became one of the most outstanding and respected players in program history after helping Florida claim two BCS national championships in 2006 and ’08 and earning college football’s coveted Heisman Trophy during his tenure. In the new Netflix documentary series titled Untold: Swamp Kings, Tebow’s reign is on full display under former coach Urban Meyer.

On Aug. 29, 2021, Bishop Sycamore High School played IMG Academy in a football game televised on ESPN. The final score was IMG 58, Bishop 0. Bishop Sycamore was so noncompetitive that ESPN broadcasters openly questioned what was going on during the game.
It turned out A LOT was going on, and an investigation found that Bishop Sycamore High School was completely fake, and the school was found to be operating as a scam.
Colin Cowherd made an embarrassing gaffe during a segment discussing the Seattle Seahawks’ postseason hopes in 2023 Tuesday.
Cowherd was attempting to make the case that, despite having an elite coach in Pete Carroll and good young players, he couldn’t picture Geno Smith beating the likes of Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes en route to an AFC Championship. The only problem: The Seahawks play in the NFC, not the AFC.
“They’re too young in my opinion to win a Super Bowl, but I do think can win a division and multiple playoff games.
