Marcus Freeman is not embarrassed by hearing “no.” The 37-year-old, second-year head coach made that very clear during an impassioned speech at a press conference to introduce new offensive coordinator Gerad Parker on Monday.
Parker, the tight ends coach in South Bend last season, was officially promoted over the weekend. He takes over for Tommy Rees, who left for the same role at Alabama.
However, Parker was not the first choice. Freeman and Notre Dame had targeted Utah’s Andy Ludwig.

Hampton was initially the No. 24 pick in the 2020 NBA draft by the Nuggets after he played for the New Zealand Breakers instead of attending college. Hampton played in 25 games for Denver in his rookie season before the Nuggets traded him to Orlando as part of the Aaron Gordon trade in ’21.
In the second half of his rookie season, Hampton averaged over 11 points in 25 minutes per game for the Magic. Last year, he played in 64 total games for Orlando, starting 14 and averaging 7.
Louisiana State University wide receiver Malik Nabers was arrested in New Orleans on Monday evening. OutKick was able to confirm his arrest through the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Nabers, 19, was arrested around 9:00 p.m. CST on Monday evening, but he was not booked until just before 2:00 a.m. CST on Tuesday. He is charged with Illegal Carrying of a Weapon and released on late Tuesday morning on his own recognizance.
